Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities
What We’re Looking For:
The Senior Network Engineer will play a key role in development, integration, monitoring, and testing of the Iridium Mission, Commercial, and Enterprise networks’ infrastructure. Responsibilities include designing, implementing, monitoring, and maintaining functional network infrastructure and equipment, performing network testing, validation, and troubleshooting to ensure a fault-tolerant, reliable, scalable, and automated infrastructure across Iridium's Mission, Commercial, and Enterprise networks. In this role, you will be responsible for configuring and maintaining Local and Wide Area Network infrastructure equipment and devices. You will also participate, and at times lead, the design and implementation of solutions that follow industry best practices.
What You’ll Do:
- Support operations and engineering activities of the Iridium Commercial, Mission, and Enterprise networks and manage Local Area Networks and Wide Area Networks spanning across multiple sites.
- Perform installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of networking devices including, but not limited to, Cisco devices such as ISR/ASR Routers, Catalyst and Nexus switches, firewalls (to include Cisco, Fortinet, Check Point, and Palo Alto firewalls), and AWS Cloud services.
- Maintain documentation, audit logs, and adhere to Configuration Management rules required to meet compliance and to enable team members to assist in problems and apply consistent solutions across different environments and teams.
- Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the network industries, technologies, and best practices.
- Provide real time troubleshooting and problem resolution support as required and provide 24x7 on call assistance as needed.
- Support cross-functional efforts and share your expertise with colleagues to identify and autonomously implement ideas and solutions that create added value for the team and the program and constantly improve the daily maintenance and operations of the Iridium Commercial, Mission, and Enterprise networks across multiple sites.
Experience & Education Requirements / EEO
What You’ll Need to Succeed:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.
- 8+ years of experience managing and maintaining mid-to-large scale LAN/WAN networks devices that include Cisco Routers, Switches, firewall and other vendors networking technologies.
- Strong understanding and hands-on experience configuring and maintaining routing protocols such as OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP and other industry standard protocols commonly used with networking devices such as Spanning-Tree, VRF, VTP, and VSS.
- Excellent network troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a high-pressure environment. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly summarize information about networking products, concepts, and/or issues to individuals outside of our team and to provide knowledge-based recommendations to management.
