Job Description

Title: Senior Quality Engineer - Engine Testing

Key Accountabilities:

  • Plan, execute, and oversee quality control procedures in the engine testing area for diesel engines (performance, durability, emissions, etc.).
  • Lead and coordinate product and part qualifications, including defining quality criteria, validating new designs, and ensuring successful integration into the engine platform.
  • Review and approve test protocols, procedures, and data collection methods to ensure compliance with internal standards and industry regulations.
  • Analyze test results to identify trends, deviations, or potential quality issues and drive corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Coordinate with the testing team to troubleshoot test stand issues, instrumentation faults, or deviations in engine performance.
  • Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and supplier quality teams to qualify new or modified components through structured validation and testing plans.
  • Develop and implement statistical quality control methods (SPC, Cpk, GR&R, etc.) to monitor engine test outcomes and process capability.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, and applicable environmental and safety regulations.
  • Lead root cause analysis and 8D reporting for test-related quality issues.
  • Generate detailed test and quality reports for internal reviews and customer documentation.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in quality control or testing within a diesel engine manufacturing environment.

Preferred:

  • Strong knowledge of internal combustion engines, engine testing protocols, test bench operation, and emissions testing.
  • Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., ISO, ASTM, EPA) and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficient in data analysis tools and quality software (e.g., Minitab, SAP-QM, LabVIEW, Influx, AVL tools, etc.).
  • Experience with failure mode analysis, 8D problem solving, FMEA, and control plan creation
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong leadership and communication skills.
    • Ability to maintain a structured approach in potentially high-pressure environments.
    • Detail-oriented with the ability to see the bigger picture.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of manufacturing process and engine technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the production of internal combustion engines.
  • Ability to work flexible hours or shifts
  • Proficient with PC and MS Office Suite
  • Working knowledge of diesel aftertreatment systems (DOC, DPF, SCR) and OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) regulations.
  • Lean or Six Sigma certification
  • Exposure to embedded software validation, particularly ECU functionality testing related to performance and emissions.
  • Proficient in instrumentation and sensor technologies commonly used in engine test cells (thermocouples, pressure transducers, flow meters, emissions analyzers).
  • Experience interfacing with suppliers and validating critical engine components like fuel systems, turbochargers, pistons, injectors, etc.
  • Previous experience in leading cross-functional project teams or involvement in customer audits and technical reviews.

This position has a compressed work schedule that requires four (4) ten (10) hour days during a Monday through Thursday work week, and the position is eligible for overtime as business requires with causal overtime expected. 
While performing tasks for this position, the employee is regularly requested to perform work on a computer inside and outside of the work environment. Also, the employee will be occasionally requested to come in contact with wet environmental conditions. Finally, the employee will frequently hear noise while performing task in the work environment.
