The Lourie Center Head Start, Adventist HealthCare seeks to hire an experienced Head Start Teacher Floater, who will embrace our mission to extend God’s care through the ministry of physical, mental, and spiritual healing.

The Lourie Center Head Start (LCHS) program is a federally funded, community-based program for low-income families as well as pregnant women with children from birth to five years old. The program serves children with disabilities, children in foster care and families that are homeless.

As a Head Start Teacher Floater you will:
• Assist teachers with the collection and entry of assessment data to be analyzed by teacher teams in Teaching Strategies GOLD to guide curriculum, transition, and individual/group plan decisions.
• Assist with implementation of approved curriculum activities to the Tools of the Mind curriculum with the guidance from the Reggio Emilia philosophy to promote children’s development and learning.
• When requested, complete the ASQ-3 and ASQ - SE to identify concerns regarding a child’s developmental, behavioral, motor, language, social, cognitive, and emotional skills during a home visit.
• Provide breaks for classroom teachers according to schedule.
• Assist with the preparation of daily meals and snacks.
• Attend and participate in all scheduled trainings such as community of practices, engage in coaching cycles with assigned coach, reflective supervision and in collaboration with the director develop PDP for own professional development.

Qualifications include:
• High School diploma
• 6 months working directly with children in an approved setting
• Active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Knowledge of child development, early childhood curriculum and developmentally appropriate practice for the specific age group (Birth to 3), and (3-5) preferred
• Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards preferred.
• Knowledge of Head Start Early Learning Framework preferred
• Experience with low-income families, teen parents, expectant parents, infants with special needs, and child nutrition preferred
• Ability to read, write, and speak English in order to communicate effectively - strongly preferred

Work Schedule:

Monday- Friday 8am - 4:30pm. Location is Riverdale or Hyattsville.

Pay Range:

$17.91 - $24.18

If the salary range is listed as $0 or if the position is Per Diem (with a fixed rate), salary discussions will take place during the screening process.

Under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), this position is classified as:

United States of America (Non-Exempt)
