Description

The Director of Safety is responsible for developing, implementing, and leading the organization’s comprehensive safety strategy to protect employees, customers, contractors, and company assets. This role establishes and maintains a proactive safety culture by ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations while driving continuous improvement in workplace health and safety performance.

The Director of Safety provides strategic direction for all environmental, health, and safety (EHS) initiatives, develops company‑wide safety policies and procedures, and ensures consistent implementation of safety standards across all business units and job sites. This position works closely with senior leadership, operations, human resources, shift leads, and maintenance personnel to integrate safety into every aspect of the organization’s operations.

What You Will Be Responsible For

  • Implementing and managing an air, ground, and industrial safety program for assigned locations and all employees.
  • Developing and promoting a strong safety culture while maintaining compliance, quality, and professionalism.
  • Leading the organization’s safety strategy by establishing measurable goals, KPIs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintaining accident, mishap, and incident records; conducting safety audits and inspections; and promoting the Safety Management System (SMS).
  • Ensuring compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Supporting customer engagement activities and ensuring concerns are addressed promptly and professionally.
  • All other duties as assigned 
     

Qualifications

 

What You Will Need to Be Successful in This Role

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Education, Aviation, or Business.
  • Must hold or have previously held an FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate and Flight Instructor Certificate, each with instrument and rotorcraft ratings; OR graduate of a Department of Defense (DoD) Instructor Pilot (IP) course with at least five years of rotary‑wing flight training experience.
  • Minimum 1,500 total flight hours, including 500 hours as a flight instructor and 250 hours in rotorcraft.
  • Graduate of one of the following aviation or ground safety programs:
  • U.S. Army Aviation Safety Officer Program, Naval/Marine Aviation Safety Officer Course, U.S. Air Force Flight Safety Officer Course and at least 10 years of experience managing and administering a safety program OR U.S. Army Ground Safety Officer Program, U.S. Army Safety NCO Course, Naval Aviation Safety Specialist Course, U.S. Air Force ISOX1 (Journeyman 5‑Skill level or higher), ANSI‑accredited U.S. Army CP‑1 Program and at least 5 years of experience managing and administering a safety program.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a comprehensive ground and flight safety program in accordance with AR 95‑20, AR 385‑series, DA Pam 385‑40, and OSHA standards.
  • Working knowledge of Army Aviation operations, aviation maintenance, training environments, and readiness requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearances and installation access credentials (U.S. citizenship required for Fort Rucker access).
  • Ability to travel to support customer engagements, program execution, and business requirements.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • FAA Certified Flight Instructor, Certified Flight Instructor Instrument, or Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certificate
