Job Description
As a Mainframe Systems Engineer, you will work with other System Engineers, Applications Programmers, and support teams to perform daily activities ranging in complexity and be responsible for the installation, configuration, upkeep, and reliable operation of multiple z/VM and z/Linux environments. You will own and drive projects from start (gathering requirements) to finish (release into production). Your passion for excellence coupled with uncompromising standards and a positive approach to execution will help you and the team achieve new levels of performance.
Problem-solving skills with a strong technical proficiency and strategic thinking
Design, install and maintain multiple z/VM and z/Linux systems, across multiple sites.
Develop and enhance system and middleware software on the z/VM and z/Linux platforms to meet Visa's business requirements
Provide support for all incident, change, problem, and emergency paperwork for z/VM and z/Linux systems
Provide input to z/VM and z/Linux capacity planners with current and projected system usage
Provide support to build a new system or add new hardware components (OSA, memory, etc) to existing systems.
Mentor and support the technical development of junior staff
This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:• 10+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 7 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 4 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 13+ years of relevant work experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
• 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 8-10 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 6+ years of work experience with a PhD
• 10 or more years of z/VM and z/Linux Mainframe System Engineering and Software Development experience ideally with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering or at least 8 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters/ MBA/JD/MD) or at least 3 years of work experience with a PhD
• 5+ years’ experience Installation and maintenance of multiple z/VM systems. Experience performing z/VM and z/Linux release level upgrades, RSU upgrades and corrective service as needed.
• Experience with maintaining and installing related OEM Vendor software products. Specifically CA’s VM:Manager Suite and Velocity Software.
• 5+ years working with large, complex IBM mainframe hardware configurations.
• 5+ years of experience in developing, implementing, and maintaining programs in z/VM Rexx and CMS Pipelines.
• Expert knowledge in z/VM and z/Linux Mainframe Systems Engineering
• 5+ years of experience in performing problem determination and resolution using second level z/VM guest systems
• Ability to work effectively on multiple concurrent assignments with both technical and business staff
• This is an incredibly busy environment with a huge workload. The applicant must be flexible and self-motivated with very high work standards. Attention to detail, the ability to perform as an individual contributor or as a member/leader of a team is also a must.
