SUMMARY

The Fleet Management Division is seeking an associate level technician who will be responsible for performing routine inspection, maintenance, and repairs primarily on light automotive applications at our Atando Ave. maintenance shop. Daily responsibilities include lube oil and filter change, safety inspections, tires, drive cycles, automotive systems diagnosis/repair, and brake work. This is an entry level position and will include mentoring with a journey level technician for a period of time. This is a second shift position.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspects, diagnoses and performs general automotive repairs.

  • North Carolina State Inspections

  • Lube oil and filter service

  • Completes work orders using fleet maintenance software to document work performed.

  • Assist in determining functions, faults, and needed service or recommend repairs.

  • Interprets manuals, electrical diagrams and diagnostic software to make needed repairs

  • Provides customer service by working with peers and customers as needed.

  • Demonstrates the ability and knowledge to identify specific parts, operate tools and equipment needed to provide service.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the methods, tools and materials used in installation, diagnosis and maintenance of automobiles and other equipment.

  • Knowledge of automotive wiring concepts. 

  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade, and the ability to exercise adequate safety precautions against such hazards.

  • Knowledgeable in the use and care of tools, equipment, and materials used in all types of automotive repair work.

  • Desire to learn and expand knowledge of the automotive industry and Fleet Management.

  • Ability to analyze, evaluate and effectively input diagnosis, recommendation and work performed into fleet maintenance software.

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to operate technical and computerized test equipment.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

  • Possess or obtain the following licensures within six months (180) days of hire:

    • NC Inspection license

    • AC Recovery & Recycling License

  • Must possess a valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to obtain and maintain a City driving permit.

  • Must possess basic automotive hand tools

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree or certification from an accredited technical school or college.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma/GED
