Job Description
The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for an Academic Advisor 1 for the Honors College. The Academic Advisor 1 works closely with, and under the direction of, higher-level Advisors to perform traditional advising to prospective, new, transfer, and continuing undergraduate education students. The Academic Advisor 1 will increasingly gain exposure to honors curriculum, Honors College pathway requirements, and participate in retention activities. This position reports to the Coordinator, Student Actualization and Engagement.
In order to be successful in this position, candidates should have the ability to work independently and collaboratively, communicate effectively in written and oral forms, and accomplish goals within a range of established guidelines. Taking a problem-solving, student-first approach to working with a diverse undergraduate student population is imperative. Duties include:
Under direction of higher-level advisors, advise incoming freshmen, new students, continuing students and transfer students on honors courses and appropriate class selection for the Honors College pathway requirements and professional goals; conduct individual and group advising appointments
Provide data related to retention and enrollment management for reports and presentations
Complete and submit Admission and Records forms and processes to include remove holds, scheduling appointments, facilitating course registration, completing advance registration for incoming students, etc.
Participate in new student orientation sessions
Advise students on academic probation, provide referrals to appropriate campus resources
Create and maintain accurate student records including documenting each interaction
Participating in proactive outreach related to early alert systems and communication from faculty
Participate in professional development workshops/events
Participate in and support of College FIT Program
Participate in assigned special projects
Communicate with all first-year students and assist with the onboarding process
Approve co-curricular experiences and track milestones; create and maintain co-curricular database
