Job Description
AECOM is actively seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior Mechanical Process Engineer to work as a mechanical process design engineer on large, complex, multi-discipline, high-profile water and wastewater treatment and pumping facilities for both traditional and design-build projects throughout the Greater New York Area. This position will be heavily focused on the detailed technical design associated with pump stations for water and wastewater, including pipe sizing calculations, selection of pump type, process facilities (primary, secondary, tertiary, and solids treatment systems), rotating equipment (centrifugal pumps, blowers), piping systems, valves, and appurtenances for in plant process piping, chemical systems, sludge and residual handling systems, and hydraulic studies.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Senior technical resource may serve as technical lead or advisor for team
- Supervise and support the work of others and mentor junior level engineer and design/drafting technical staff.
- Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise
- Develops study and design procedures to facilitate high quality cost effective work by others.
- Participates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables
- Develops construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects
- Uses expertise in all steps of completing discipline component of PS&E package
- Performs quality control review of design calculations or drawings
- Prepares technical specification sections
- Provides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements
- Serve as design manager and lead project tasks, in collaboration with project managers and clients, in the planning, design, permitting and construction of wastewater and/or reclaimed water facilities including but not limited to treatment facilities and conveyance systems as well as creating and/or overseeing the preparation of construction documents (drawings and specifications) and permit applications, as well as handling construction.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- BA/BS plus eight years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
Preferred Requirements:
- Experience in the water/wastewater industry.
- Professional Engineering License (PE), New Jersey or New York preferred.
- Experience with AutoCAD and Building Information Modeling (BIM).
- Experience managing a team and development of junior staff.
- Must be a highly motivated self-starter with solid writing and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy of work.
- Ability to meet quality, schedule and budget expectations.
- Ability to apply passion and enthusiasm for design in a collaborative and progressive team-oriented work environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point).
