Head of Geospatial Data

The Head of Geospatial Data reports to OS’ Chief Geospatial Officer and will be accountable for our geospatial data governance, data strategy, and roadmap that ensures OS’ remains the UK’s trusted location data authority.
OS is a leading location data authority and this role will help us to embed a mature data culture across the business, and evolve future-focused capabilities in the data value chain as we continue to respond to changing market demands. This role is also fundamental in building effective partnerships that expand OS’ role and reach within the fast-evolving global digital ecosystem.
Within OS, this role will draw on and collaborate with leaders and subject matter experts across the business as well as acting as a strategic adviser to OS’ Executive team and the Chief Geospatial Officer. This role is accountable for c£5million data investment programme incorporating Enterprise Data Programme and associated Core Data Programmes.
This role will design and implement a geospatial data strategy and roadmap, and own the development of OS data as a strategic asset. Supporting the business to embed a data-driven culture that aligns standards, governance, quality, and stewardship will be critical to this, as well as leading the ongoing development of architecture, management, science, and analytics.
What we’re looking for
We are looking for a credible data leader with a background in successfully developing and leading a data strategy and function. Ideally, you've done this in a data-centric, commercially focused business so you have a deep understanding of how to own and develop data as a strategic business asset.
You're passionate about data in all its forms and a champion of the business value it brings. You look at strategic long-term opportunities but are just as comfortable with day-to-day choices and decisions that make progress. It's important you're comfortable working with complexity and are able to engage and influence about complex topics appropriately with many different stakeholders in a matrix environment.
Ideally, your knowledge and experience is rooted in geospatial / location data but if not, it must be in an adjacent data domain.

What you’ll bring
- Track record in strategic data leadership in a business where data and insight are core products, relied upon by external customers and subject to long term commitment, care and innovative development
- Familiarity with or experience of working with geospatial data
- Demonstrable evidence of accountability for building, governing and managing sustainable data infrastructure
- Experience of leading a variety of interdependent data disciplines eg. data governance, data architecture, data management, data science, data quality
- Proven track record as the ‘voice of data’ in digital/tech organisational environments to ensure a data driven culture
- Adept at influencing at senior levels and effective stakeholder management across business functions
- Credible and strategic data leader, with a track record of leading a multi-discipline data team and a wider community of data professionals
- Good awareness of trends, developments in the sector and bringing those into own practice and strategy (data pragmatist)
- Good awareness of platform centric data infrastructures and latest trends influencing these – including the exploitation of AI
- Experience of collaborating and contributing value as part of a business Senior Leadership Team
