Designer, Footwear (Timberland)
What will you do?
A day in the life of a Footwear Designer for Timberland looks a little like this.
As a trusted member of our design team, you will report to the Senior Designer, Footwear. You will collaborate and liaise with the product development, merchandising, marketing and sales teams to gather ideas and create innovative products focused on our sneaker category.
Let’s break down that day-in-the-life a bit more.
Create new footwear designs, graphics, color and materialize seasonal collections and partner with the product development team on crafting innovative footwear products and solutions
Produce a high level of output, typically three to six new footwear concepts and 10-15 color collections per season – Spring/Summer, Fall and Holiday
Utilize merchandising briefs to create footwear concepts and collections
Sketch and render footwear ideas and design seasonal graphics
Analyze and evaluate other designs and advise courteously
Execute footwear designs, seasonal color CADs and create a footwear tech pack
Research color and style trend analysis and communicate to the product development team via samples, trend boards, etc.
What do you need to succeed?
We all have unique skills that we bring to work and celebrate every day. For this role, there are foundational skills you’ll need to succeed and excel. Additionally, while formal education in a related field is great to have, we are most interested in your 1+ years of related experience and training (a degree in Industrial or Fashion Design is preferred).
The foundational skills you will need in this position are:
Footwear or apparel design experience or an equivalent combination of technical experience and training
Proficiency with computer design software, i.e., Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop
Skilled with business computer software, i.e., Microsoft Excel, Work, PowerPoint, Apple Keynote
Knowledge of additional computer design (SolidWorks, Alias, Rhino or other design software) is a plus
Professional presentation skills
The ability to ready, analyze and interpret product design briefs
The adeptness to establish and maintain effective relationships with cross-functional partners
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
The ability to travel internationally and domestically as needed (10-20% of the time)
The willingness and ability to work additional hours as needed
The capability to bend, lift, open and move product and related office items varying in weight from 1-25 pounds, depending on the need
Willingness to learn and get hands on in our proto lab to create new concepts
