The McKetta Department of Chemical Engineering’s undergraduate and graduate programs are both top-10 ranked programs in the nation according to U.S. News & World Report. The department leads pioneering research and education in vital areas such as energy and the environment, human health, materials and manufacturing. Our faculty includes 12 members of the National Academy of Engineering and two National Medal of Technology and Innovation recipients. Our students go on to transform industries, benefit society and improve quality of life.

Purpose

The Maynard research group seeks a part-time Senior Administrative Associate to help with ordering, grant tracking, accounting, grant management, and maintaining operations for the Maynard Lab and the Advanced Protein Therapeutics core in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary lab environment. 

Responsibilities

  • Financial management, including establishing billing and accounting systems, ordering supplies, reconciling accounts, and tracking lab expenditures.

  • Administrative tasks such as maintaining group calendars, making room reservations for meeting, onboarding new students and staff, and other similar duties.

  • Maintain data records to meet reporting requirements.

  • Support project management by tracking action items, deadlines and communicating with clients.

  • Support for grant applications and administration including budget preparation, budget tracking, submission of proposals, submission of no cost extensions, submission of progress reports, and account close-out.

  • Outreach and event planning, including a week-long annual training workshop.

  • Contribute to a professional, respectful and supportive work environment.

  • Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree plus 3 years of experience in a professional environment. Proven track record of managing collaborative projects in a highly complex organization. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-institutional, interdisciplinary environment. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and the Google suite of programs, including expertise in Excel and Excel functionalities. Consistent record keeping and understanding of reporting requirements. Excellent organizational skills, effective time management skills, ability to work independently and creatively, with strong problem-solving skills.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with expense tracking, budget transfers, and account reconciliations using UT’s accounting systems (FRMS and DEFINE). Experience managing business development, client relations and organizing professional events. Demonstrated skills in technical writing and data organization a plus. 

Salary Range

$25,000 - $27,500+ depending on qualifications (prorated based on a $50,000 - $55,000+ full time rate)

Working Conditions

  • May work around biosafety hazards and chemicals.

  • May work in standard office conditions with repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.

  • Some travel for both on-site and off-site event coordination will be required.
