GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This position will be responsible for providing leadership and guidance to eight counties in North Carolina Tobacco Prevention and Control Branch Funding Region 5 based on evidence-based tobacco control strategies. The purpose of this job is to focus on the advancing initiatives designed related to the following goals:
- Identifying and addressing tobacco-related health disparities among populations.
- Eliminating exposure to secondhand smoke.
- Providing resources for tobacco users who want to quit; and
- Preventing youth from initiating tobacco use.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.
- Serves as a liaison between the State and Local Government related to tobacco prevention policy and enforcement.
- Provides technical assistance through training, facilitation and coaching within the region that works to advance policy and helps counties develop community partnerships and promote health equity.
- Plans and implements culturally appropriate evidence-based strategies to reduce deaths, health problems and preventable healthcare costs due to tobacco use and secondhand smoke.
- Promotes tobacco use cessation among adults and youth.
- Coordinates regional collaborative coalition meetings and determines the tasks involved in assessing needs, opportunities and gaps in order to set tobacco control priorities.
- Engages community leaders/members within at-risk groups to establish a shared vision and strategies for reducing the burden of tobacco use within these groups.
- Conducts assessments of the current tobacco control environment in counties throughout the region to identify evidence of current policies and regulations, and to identify needs, gaps and opportunities;<
