The compensation range for this job is: $130,725 - $178,707

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director, IP Architecture & Engineering, leads an organization that is critical to our growth, profitability, capital efficiency and our customers’ experience. In this role, the selected candidate will lead and develop a technical team that has as its primary mission providing a: 1) engineering leadership and management consistent with corporate business strategy 2) engineering design, standards and execution consistent with the strategy; 3) superior customer experience during all phases of the customer lifecycle. This leader must be able to manage priorities and resources in a fluid environment. The individual must have a broad industry background with the ability to call on industry resources as needed to augment internal resources and ensure that we stay state of the art in our thinking and actions.  Must understand the business consequences of their actions around conflicting priorities, cost management, capital efficiency, personnel, alternative technologies, etc. The team needs to be agile and flexible, understanding that we are in a dynamic business and requirements change very quickly. The Director, IP Architecture & Engineering, is the primary escalation point and decision maker for issues with the mission described above. As such the successful candidate, must have excellent negotiating and communications skills. This leader will interact with all levels of Alaska Communications up to and including the CEO and will be relied upon as a key subject matter expert in network strategy and operations of our business. They must have a strong knowledge of IP data networks and functional knowledge of wireless, satellite and legacy wireline networks; develop key leaders under their supervision; and react quickly in emergency situations.

Examples of Job Duties

  • Execute and consult on the five-year IP network strategy ensuring that it is linked with the product strategy to provide the foundation for profitable growth.

  • Monitors industry trends and leverage industry relationships to bring new thoughts and technologies to the company to maintain a technology leadership position in Alaska.

  • Provides leadership in engineering and design consistent with the network strategy ensuring optimal capital and operating cost efficiency and IP network performance.

  • Build and lead staff/teams - Hire and lead a customer-focused team using his/her experience in performance development, coaching, goal development, evaluations, etc. Lead staff in a manner that assures measurable impact and output, ensuring continuous process improvement.

  • Modernize existing programs currently in place to increase level of performance and productivity maximizing the use of automation to drive continuous improvement.

  • Develop and implement simple and compelling individual and team development and succession plans and actions.

  • Drive business continuity through the strategic cross-training and diversification of the engineering workforce, guaranteeing that all essential sustaining network engineering functions remain fully supported during transitions or unforeseen disruptions.

  • Facilitate the continued communication and adoption of the organization's culture and values.

  • Lead strategies that advance the competitiveness of the union workforce.

  • Understand linkage between network activities and Company’s financial statements to make recommendations and decisions that are accretive to the company’s P&L, capital structure, etc.
