About the role

REPORTS TO:  Electrical Supervisor

SUPERVISES:  N/A

AUTHORITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains overall safe work practices and adheres to safety policies and procedures
  • Ability to insure quality of own work
  • Ensure correct construction procedures are adhered to in compliance with Austal USA standards and project specifications
  • Able to receive and carry out verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to work as part of a team and within assigned roles
  • Maintains housekeeping, keeps worksite free of rubbish, keeps materials and equipment stowed in an orderly manner
  • Conserves waste of consumables and other material
  • Accountable for completion of daily work assignments including the completion and signatures for work completion and quality
  • Able to learn on-the-job as an on-the-job trainee
  • Assists or works with other trades or Austal USA employees as directed (May be assigned tasks outside craft as required)
  •   Monitors working environment for compliance with quality, safety, environmental and health regulations and report deficiencies to supervisor

  • Able to pull cable in and outside of vessel overcoming obstacles
  • Ability to learn the fundamentals of electrical concepts and practices in order to perform assigned task to satisfy budget and schedule requirements
  • Must obtain Working Knowledge of Marine Electrical Installation of Penetrations and Packing
  • Must obtain Working Knowledge of Marine Electrical Installation of Cable Trays and Hangers
  • Must obtain Working Knowledge of Marine Electrical Cable Types and Installation methods
  • Ability to learn the fundamentals of aluminum welding concepts and practices in order to perform assigned task to satisfy budget and schedule requirements
  • Must obtain and maintain a B Class CV fillet weld certification in required positions (This is for basic welding and tacking and does not include the out of position mock testing of a Welder)

QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:

  •    Applicable Trade Technical Diploma/Certificate or equivalent  preferred
  • Previous shipyard experience or experience in a similar industry is preferred.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide
  • Ability to measure using the Metric and English system
  • Knowledge of shipyard terminology such as general ship structure and vessel layout preferred.
  • The ability to understand directions and follow instructions; both oral and written
  • Ability to pass mechanical aptitude test
  • Experience welding preferred
  • Must obtain and maintain applicable certifications required to perform essential functions

TOOLS:

  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of competency and safe use of all trade related power tools.
  •   Supply own Trade tools to be able to maintain productive output and perform Duties.
  •   Tape Measure.
  •   Set Screwdrivers (8 in 1 multitip)
  •   Diagonal Cutting Pliers
  •   Lineman’s Pliers
  •   Knife
  •   8’’ Adjustable Wrench
  •   10” Channellocks
  •   Set of open end/box end wrenches (metric and standard)
  •   Metric and standard Socket set
  •   PPE

  • ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES:  Candidates must meet the following employment eligibility guidelines to be considered for employment with Austal USA:
  • 18 years of age or older at time of application
  • Able to provide proof of US Person Status
  • No felony convictions of Theft/Deception or Violent crimes within seven years from disposition date
  • No felony convictions of Drug crimes within three years from disposition date
  • Willing to submit to a drug screen
  • Willing to submit to a background check

HS Diploma/GED or comparable trade experience; comparable trade experience is defined as 5 or more years of experience working in the applicable trade, 2 years of experience in shipbuilding, or education in the trade comparable to apprenticeship.

LIASES WITH: Production Department Supervisors and Foremen, Health, Safety and Environmental, and trade personnel
