About the Role:
WEG Electric Corp. has an excellent opportunity for a Global Trade Compliance Analyst. The Global Trade Compliance Specialist will interpret International Trade Regulations and apply them as necessary; provide guidance and requirements to personnel concerning international trade regulations; ensure proper use of export authorizations (licenses/agreements, exemptions, exceptions, etc.); determine and document classification designation for parts, equipment, and technology; complete required recordkeeping; maintain knowledge of and stays current on regulatory changes; and review contracts for global trade requirements. Responsible for all divisions under the 3001-company code. Process all export orders as well as import & export transportation duties.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assign and validate Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes for imported products, particularly industrial and electrical motors and generators.
- Respond to requests from Customs Brokers and USCBP (CF28, 29, and Marking Notices)
- Manage origin determinations and documentation to support USMCA and other Free Trade Agreements.
- Audit import entries and documentation (e.g., CBP Form 7501, ISFs) to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Coordinate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and internal teams to resolve discrepancies in import filings.
- Prepare and submit claims for duty drawback in accordance with CBP requirements.
- Manage the Reconciliation process for changes in valuation, classification, and origin post-entry.
- Maintain audit-ready documentation and ensure traceability for all import-related programs.
- Collaborate with key departments, including sourcing, engineering, logistics, legal, finance, and quality, to support trade compliance objectives.
- Assist in drafting, updating, and maintaining trade compliance policies and procedures to align with regulatory changes and company practices.
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) on trade regulations and provide practical guidance to internal stakeholders.
- Develop, maintain, and deliver training materials and presentations to internal teams across multiple departments.
- Conduct compliance workshops and onboarding sessions to promote awareness and understanding of trade regulations, including USMCA qualifications, classification best practices, and documentation requirements.
- Support internal audits, external audits, and investigations related to trade compliance.
- Monitor regulatory changes and assess potential impact to business operations.
- Identify and mitigate risks related to non-compliance with U.S. import laws.
- Maintain trade compliance databases and ensure accurate recordkeeping in accordance with CBP and internal standards.
- Provide reporting and metrics to management on compliance performance, cost savings, and risk indicators.
Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in International Trade, Business, Supply Chain, or related field.
- 3-5 years of direct experience in U.S. import trade compliance.
- Strong knowledge of:
- U.S. Customs regulations (19 CFR)
- Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTSUS)
- USMCA and FTA qualification requirements
- Duty drawback and reconciliation processes
- Demonstrated experience writing policies, procedures, and training content.
- Ability to lead cross-functional collaboration across departments.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Experience:
- (CCS) Certified Customs Specialist
- Working knowledge of Spanish or Portuguese is a plus.
- Proficiency with trade compliance software tools (e.g., SAP GTS, Integration Point, Descartes).
