Job Objective: The Accounting Manager ensures the accuracy of ledgers and financial reporting; guides assigned locations/departments with budgeting and forecasting; mentors other finance department staff.
Essential Functions:
- Maintain accurate ledgers, financial reporting and budgeting
- Review and approve accounting and reporting functions of assigned units
- Review and sign off on checks/ACH payments per established guidelines
- Work with officers/administrators/department heads for assigned units to create annual budgets and revisions as needed
- Act as a resource regarding complex financial transactions and reporting/tracking of funding
- Support and guide assigned units with understanding/monitoring financial matters and forecasting
- Monitor cash needs for assigned units
- Calculate quarterly support service adjustments for assigned units
- Maintain records within established Salvation Army policies and procedures
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Business administration and finance courses desirable. Courses in computer-based accounting very helpful.
Experience: Five years in the accounting field, non-profit accounting experience highly preferred.
Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel & e-mail.
- Position requires a confident, self-motivated, multi-tasked individual with integrity in the use of resources.
- Demonstrate ability as a team-builder and able to maintain confidentiality.
- Act in a manner consistent with the Mission Statement of The Salvation Army.
- Must be a highly organized, detail-oriented (accuracy) self-starter able to meet deadlines.
- Strong Communication skills are necessary.
- Willingness to promote and work in accordance with The Salvation Army’s mission, vision and values, with particular regard to excellence of service.

Physical Requirements: Include good speaking, hearing and vision ability and excellent manual dexterity. Ability to stand, bend and reach for extended periods of time, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office equipment.
