The Vice President Communications and Marketing is a key leadership role responsible for executing strategic communications and marketing initiatives to enhance the brand, engage members, and strengthen the organization's reputation. This role oversees media relations, public relations, crisis communications, and policy communications, and serves as Editor-in-Chief of the organization's flagship magazine. The VP also leads content strategy for blogs, social media, and other member-focused communications, ensuring alignment with the organization's mission.
The position requires people management and leadership experience, with the ability to lead and develop a small team of communications, editorial, and marketing professionals through direct and indirect people management. The VP will collaborate closely with a long-tenured senior leadership team, ensuring consistency in messaging and alignment with strategic priorities, and will serve as a consultant to the Executive Director and Board leadership.
A successful candidate will bring a strong background in communications, marketing, branding and digital content strategy. Expertise in public relations is a plus.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communications & Media Relations
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy to continuously elevate the organization's profile through storytelling and complex/sensitive medical positions.
- Ensure clear and compelling policy communications to inform and engage members, the public, and key stakeholders.
- Guide Board of Trustees, Board of Governors, Officers, Committee Members and Senior staff on key external communications. When necessary, lead crisis communications planning and response efforts to protect the organization's reputation.
- Oversee media relations, including press releases, media inquiries, and proactive outreach to journalists and industry publications. Regularly draft statements for letters to the editor, interviews, presentations and quotes.
Marketing & Branding
- Develop and execute marketing strategies to promote health care leaders, organization initiatives, conferences, leadership, publications, educational programs, and members.
- Oversee brand management efforts to ensure consistency and alignment with the organization's mission, goals and style guide.
- Utilize data-driven insights to optimize campaigns and enhance audience engagement.
Editorial Leadership & Content Strategy
- Serve as Editor-in-Chief of their magazine, overseeing content strategy, editorial direction, and production.
- Synthesize and communicate cutting edge clinical science presented at the Annual Scientific Meeting and published by their three journals.
- Supervise and curate content for blogs, newsletters, and other member-focused digital and print communications.
- Lead the development of engaging and informative content across multiple platforms, ensuring consistency in messaging and voice.
Digital & Social Media Management
- Oversee the social media strategy, ensuring impactful engagement with members and industry stakeholders.
- Manage website content and ensure optimization for search engines (SEO) to enhance visibility and member engagement.
- Leverage analytics to track content performance and inform future digital strategies.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead and manage a team of communications and marketing professionals, providing mentorship, professional development, and performance management.
- Work in close collaboration with a long-tenured senior leadership team, ensuring strategic alignment across the organization.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, innovation, and accountability within the communications and marketing team.

Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Medical Public Policy or a related field (Master's preferred).
