About the role 

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for Interventional Oncology and Embolization (IO&E) will contribute to the strategic direction of the IO&E franchise by ensuring the clinical and medical viability of the current produce portfolio and the therapeutic pipeline. This role provides scientific leadership and clinical expertise to support the design, execution, and analysis of clinical trials, while also overseeing the clinical benefit-risk profile of the business.  

 

Your responsibilities will include: 

Business Strategy 

  • Collaborate with IO&E business leaders to understand and inform franchise needs.  

  • Develop and implement a franchise-level business plan, including relationship management, team alignment on business goals, and process optimization.  

  • Provide high-level medical and therapeutic leadership to internal and external stakeholders, including project teams, investigators, and regulatory agencies.  

  • Contribute to technology strategy, including assessment and investment in internal and acquired technologies for future product development, as well as diseases and markets in which Boston Scientific does not currently have an established business.  

  • Offer medical insights throughout the product lifecycle—from early development to post-market.  

Scientific Leadership and Industry Advocacy 

  • Review regulatory submissions and represent the company in interactions with regulatory agencies (e.g., U.S. Food and Drug Administration).  

  • Provide clinical expertise to guide trial design, execution, and analysis and integrate new scientific findings into the company’s clinical strategies. 

  • Participate in or moderate medical education initiatives.  

  • Represent the company at scientific forums, congresses, and industry associations.  

  • Share clinical data and trial results with the scientific community. 

External Relationships and Scientific Partnerships 

  • Act as a spokesperson in engagements with healthcare professionals, regulators, patient advocacy groups, and investors.  

  • Build and leverage relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) across the oncology spectrum.  

  • Facilitate scientific collaborations with academic institutions, research organizations, and industry partners.  

Risk Management and Safety 

  • Lead medical oversight for IO&E, prioritizing patient safety across all clinical activities.  

  • Monitor adverse events and implement risk management strategies.  

  • Manage the IO&E Medical Safety team to ensure accurate adverse event reporting and benefit–risk assessments for both marketed and investigational products.
