About the role
Summary:
This position is responsible for supporting the Maintenance Manager in directing work activities to start up shift operations, monitor maintenance procedures and work methods, and assign work tasks to ensure all production areas meet process and quality standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform duties of maintenance mechanic as described in the maintenance technician job description as well as direct the work of other maintenance mechanics.
- Act as liaison with human resources and/or department manager for all associate related concerns. Document any work injury or rule violation for Manager review and action.
- Assist Maintenance Manager with cross-training of associates in job functions as needed.
- Safe handling and use of various chemicals with strict adherence to hazardous communication and MSDS requirements.
- Highly proficient with basic electricity and electronics including three-phase and single-phase controls, low-voltage relay logic, digital and analog electronics, single line diagrams, electrical schematics, and power distribution systems.
- Proficient in the use of hand tools and power tools used by mechanics including lathe, milling machine, fabrication, and MIG/TIG/stick welding equipment.
- Assist with the design and implementation of new systems or processes to increase operation efficiency.
- Perform maintenance projects as assigned including planning, purchasing of materials, modification or installation of parts or components, or overhauling of assigned equipment.
- Follow all safety procedures and participate in safety training. Maintain safe and efficient use of equipment, tools, and person. Report any injury or accident immediately to supervisor and/or any unsafe condition.

- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Assists with direction and coordination of the Maintenance Department, including training of employees; planning, assigning, and directing work.
- Monitor work activity in all production areas to address problems, ensure processing procedures, safety rules, and sanitation standards are followed.
- Addresses complaints and resolves problems by working with other technicians or assigning those jobs through the CMMS.
Education and/or Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent and ability to read, speak and write English to assimilate, retain, and apply training and knowledge of job functions and recognize and communicate problems and recommended solutions.
- Five or more years of related experience in a food or manufacturing plant.
- Two years or more Technical School education preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude required.
- Knowledge of pneumatic, mechanical and electro - mechanical systems and practical knowledge of plant electrical/mechanical systems strongly preferred.
- Strong motor and VFD control skills.
- Pipe fitting and proficiency with boiler systems.
- Proficient use of computers, MS Office suite, and CMMS (computerized maintenance management system).
