Summary:
The Social Media and Digital Engagement Assistant will support Student Affairs communications and leadership through developing content for social media. Under the supervision of the Digital Content Coordinator, the Social Media and Digital Engagement Assistant will gain experience in content creation, graphic design, and digital engagement strategies.
Essential Functions:
1.) Social Media Management
Assist in managing Student Affairs social media accounts (Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube), including content creation, caption writing, and post scheduling.
Capture high-quality photos at Student Affairs and campus events.
Curate images for social media event recaps in collaboration with other photographers.
2.) Content Creation
Create engaging and inclusive social media content for platforms such as Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.
Support Student Affairs leadership in scripting, filming, and editing content for their social media accounts.
Design accessible graphics and visuals for Student Affairs events.
Track new social media trends and develop relevant content.
3.) Analytics and Engagement
Track social media engagement metrics (likes, comments, shares, etc.).
Evaluate performance of posts and reels and identify high performing content.
Provide recommendations based on data insights.
4.) Supporting Student Affairs Administration
Assisting Student Affairs leadership with digital projects.
Collaborate with staff on projects highlighting student life.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
Part-time.
7 - 10 hours per week.
Salary Range:
$18.40 per hour.
Required Education and Experience:
Full-time undergraduate student at American University.
Student must have an active Federal Work Study (FWS) award.
Strong social media and communications skills.
Prior experience content creation with social media is required.
Familiarity with Canva or similar design software.
Familiarity with vertical video editing apps or software.
Detail-oriented, organized, creative, and able to manage multiple tasks at once.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
7 - 10 hours per week during normal business hours with occasional work outside of traditional hours per job duties.
