This non-academic post will provide day-to-day supervision and coordination of the clinical counseling service, for students in years 3 & 4, within the Division of Student Affairs. This position requires a high level of leadership and analytical skills to advance the wellness and support programs of Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM).

The Manager will be sensitive to the broad range and complex clinical issues and appropriate treatment interventions for medical students/clients served. Clinical issues may include the range of DSM/ICD-10 diagnoses and best practices for treatment. The Manager must maintain current knowledge of compliance measures, including a broad understanding of the United States behavioral health care system, licensure and certification, as well as the accreditation standards of the Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and other Health Professions (CAAM-HP).  

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the Manager of Clinical Student Counseling falls into the areas of providing and managing access to counseling services, providing wellness education to students and conducting trainings/workshops for colleagues, and administrative duties within the department and university wide.

Counseling Services

  • Provide consultations/screenings for new clients and facilitate the process of connecting them with appropriate provider.
  • Providing individual, and group counseling to a diverse academic community of medical students
  • Provide crisis intervention, assessment, and on-call services.
  • Demonstrate ability to apply differential diagnoses, included a broad range of medical student issues and presenting concerns.
  • Maintain a high level of quality clinical services through supervision of contract counseling therapists.
  • Maintain appropriate level of clinical counseling support for identified geographical areas based on current student populations and need.
  • Review and prioritize of student assignment to contract counseling colleagues/therapists.
  • Provide clinical coverage back-up for contract counseling colleagues/therapists as appropriate based on state licensure when the therapist is on leave.

Education & Advising

  • Conduct wellness needs assessment of students at each clinical site and develop appropriate support programs and services to address.
  • Conduct non-clinical consultation and advising meetings with students individually and in small groups to discuss and advise on career exploration, personal and professional development, and academic performance.
  • Assist in the planning, development, and presentation of in-service trainings for the Division of Student Affairs and other departments within the university.

Administrative

  • Consult with other RUSM departments, programs, and professionals.
  • Oversight of contract therapist billing and payment process.  
  • Complete performance review evaluations for direct reports.
  • Participate in quality assurance tasks, including review of clinical records, accreditation site visits, etc.
  • Assist in budget preparation, tracking program/division expenses.
  • Demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, colleagues, and university leadership.
  • Maintain a flexible schedule, with a willingness to participate in university activities and events.
  • Maintain relationships with key community partners.
  • Participate in leadership team meetings and other leadership development activities.
  • Completes other duties as assigned
