Position Description
The Senior Nutrition Advisor will support life-saving humanitarian assistance (LHA) in alignment with U.S. Government (USG) priorities, with an emphasis on addressing acute and chronic malnutrition and improving nutrition outcomes, particularly for vulnerable populations. The Advisor will provide technical leadership in designing, coordinating, and implementing multisectoral nutrition programs, integrating health, food security, WASH, and social protection sectors, in line with national strategies and USG guidance.
The Senior Nutrition Advisor will work closely with relevant Government Ministries --such as Health, Agriculture, and Education --to support the implementation of high-impact nutrition interventions, identify programmatic bottlenecks, and facilitate targeted solutions. The Advisor will be based in the relevant Ministry, reporting to designated Ministry officials and maintaining close coordination with the U.S. Department of State/Foreign Assistance Office. Familiarity with USAID programming and experience in technical assistance and program oversight are highly desirable, as the Advisor will support effective implementation and coordination of nutrition portfolio.

Responsibilities
Support Multisectoral Ministries in the Delivery of Life-Saving Nutrition Assistance:
- Provide technical assistance to ministries primarily Ministry of Health in designing and scaling up evidence-based nutrition programs, including:
- Community-based management of acute malnutrition (CMAM)
- Maternal, Infant, and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN)
- Micronutrient supplementation and food fortification
- Nutrition-sensitive agriculture interventions
- Nutrition information systems and surveillance
- School feeding and adolescent nutrition initiatives
- Strengthen integration of Nutrition programming with the wider GHSD, HIV/AIDS and TB prevention and treatment programs.
- Strengthen coordination among health, agriculture, and social sectors for the delivery of integrated nutrition services.
- Support national and sub-national authorities to plan and implement nutrition activities under humanitarian response plans, with emphasis on vulnerable populations such as children under five, pregnant and lactating women, and TB and HIV patients and key population groups.
Support Implementation of National Nutrition Policies and Strategies:
- Assist in operationalizing national nutrition strategies, such as the National Multisectoral Nutrition Action Plan (NMNAP), National Food Fortification Action Plan, Food Security Strategies, and multisectoral coordination platforms, such as Scaling-Up-Nutrition (SUN) Movement.
- Participate in field missions to provide technical support, oversee service delivery, and monitor implementation of nutrition interventions at community, facility, and systems levels.
Strengthen Program Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning:
- Monitor the progress of nutrition program implementation, providing analysis and recommendations to improve performance.
- Support development and use of nutrition indicators, dashboards, and digital tools for real-time data monitoring and reporting.
- Review and analyze partner performance reports, including those submitted to the SUN Movement Global Secretariat and other Global platforms.
- Help organize joint reviews and learning sessions to promote alignment and harmonization of donor-funded nutrition activities.
Promote Best Practices and Technical Excellence in Nutrition:
- Support dissemination of evidence-based practices and innovative delivery models to enhance program impact and sustainability.
- Ensure Nutrition program compliance with the USG priorities.
- Provide input into technical guidance, policies, protocols, and training materials.
- Advise ministries on strengthening the quality of nutrition services and scaling up effective interventions nationwide.
- Advocate for the integration of nutrition into TB, HIV/AIDS and GHS programming, primary health care, emergency response, food security, and early childhood development programs.
