Job Description

NBCUniversal is seeking a dedicated NABET Maintenance Engineer to join our dynamic Production Engineering group. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring seamless on-air productions by supporting all production systems at 30 Rock in New York, NY. You will be troubleshooting, diagnosing, and solving any technical issues that arise during live broadcasts and production tapings, including video, audio, transmission and post production systems. This role is pivotal to NBCU’s commitment to deliver high-quality news and entertainment 24/7. You will be maintaining the integrity of cutting-edge broadcasting technology and collaborating with Engineering and Operations to optimize broadcast workflows in a fast-paced environment.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Maintenance Support:

  • Act as one of the on-call engineers, addressing technical support requests from studio/control room and production operations.
  • Maintain broadcast technology systems to ensure reliability throughout the entire production environment.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot complex audio/video workflows and signal flows in SDI and IP 2110 environments.
  • Audio patching, routing, and IP Networking.
  • Client-focused support – Understand and prioritize on-air issues and work with Operations to ensure minimal show disruptions.

Project Support:

  • Collaborate with design engineering teams on new projects and workflows. Assist with testing of new equipment and products.
  • Document issues and their resolutions and escalate to L2 support teams and management as needed.

Broadcast Industry Tracking:

  • Stay informed about trends, and emerging technologies in the broadcast industry marketplace. Be prepared to offer innovative solutions including those from vendors not currently represented in the NBC technology stack.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • 2+ years of recent experience supporting live, television production environments.
  • 2+ years of experience with SMPTE 2110 standards, preferably Evertz.
  • Knowledge and experience with HDSDI/Embedded and discrete audio analog and digital formats, including AES and MADI and others such as AES67, Ravenna and Dante.
  • Experience with video production systems and workflows for live and taped programming such as switchers, video routers, encoders/decoders, and studio equipment.
  • Understanding of IP-Based broadcast equipment such as routers, switchers, audio boards, signal processers, playback systems, and more.
  • Experience with wireless audio and communication systems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of production graphics software and platforms.
  • Solid understanding of TCP/IP Protocols with knowledge of computer networking and storage infrastructures.
  • Must be willing to work rotational shifts, evenings, overnights, weekends, holidays with little or no notice.
  • Ability to support a 24/7 live production environment, which includes weekends, overnights, and holiday shift work.
  • Ability to work in a fast pace live production environment.
  • This position is an NABET Local 11 Represented job. Successful candidates will be required to join the NABET Local 11 Union upon employment if not already a member.
