Job Description

NBCUniversal Production Engineering has an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to become a NABET (Group 3) Production Engineer in our Production Engineering department at 30 Rock.  This department supports the installation and physical maintenance of all NBC Production and Client locations throughout 30 Rock. In this role you will be a part of a team of installers to implement requests to the highest standard.  

Responsibilities:

• Work within a large multi-shift team of Union technicians in the execution of incoming work orders.
• Understanding of the need to work carefully within a 24/7 on-air environment.
• Decommissioning equipment and cabling to prepare locations for upcoming installations.
• Pulling, terminating and testing various types of copper cable in a broadcast environment, including crimping and soldering.  
• Pulling, terminating and testing fiber optic cabling.
• Installation (rack and stack) of various pieces of broadcast equipment in racks and consoles.
• Installation of audio visual equipment such as TV’s and speakers.
• Rack assembly and prep for upcoming installations.
• Perform troubleshooting of technical facilities, including, but not limited to, control rooms, studio equipment, audio equipment, and computer systems.
• Installation of various AV related pieces of equipment (Mounting TV’s, speakers and various types of mounts.)
• Ensure that your work is being executed safely and neatly as per regulations and standards.
• Responsible for the complete implementation of your assigned tasks.
• Works with team leads to ensure any roadblocks or changes to plans are being accounted for/addressed throughout the builds.
• Communicate with clients and other team members to ensure all project needs are being met and to clarify any questions or issues that may arise.
• Take ownership of project status and execution to ensure we are delivering the highest quality of work.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent (required)
• 5+ years of experience in a television broadcast environment or equivalent combination of education/ and or experience
• Understanding of the 24/7 nature of the on-air News, Sports, and Entertainment environments.
• Ability to read and understand cable pinouts, system line diagrams, run sheets, cable schedules and floor plans (architectural drawings).
• Position requires a cool, levelheaded individual who works well under the pressures of live television, with the ability to stay focused and productive in a fast-paced environment with constantly changing assignments.
• Hands-on, problem-solving skills with broadcast-related equipment and systems
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience or at least an understanding of fiber optics installation, termination and testing along with associated tools and equipment.
• Experience and understanding of various types of copper cabling installations/terminations in the broadcast field. This includes audio, video, data and RF antenna cabling.
• Proficient in troubleshooting a wide range of cabling issues with the ability to think quickly and adapt.
