REMOTE: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) /Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW-CP)

Description

The pediatric counselor will see children with a range of issues including, mental illnesses like depression, anxiety, or obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD); victims of abuse and trauma; those coping with feelings about parental separation or divorce; death; peer pressure. The Counselor will assess children’s needs and set treatment goals, taking into account the child’s stage of development.

Responsible for assisting the patient and family in adjusting to the child’s diagnosis and treatment plan and helping the patient and family to function optimally throughout the treatment process. Also assists the family in maximizing utilization of the health care system and links them with the appropriate services necessary to meet their needs.

Performs a variety of duties in accordance with federal, state and local regulations along with established priorities and procedures of the practice.

• Conducts a psychosocial assessment for each individual/family assigned. The assessment should identify patient and family strengths, coping styles and problem areas within the context of their diagnostic, social, financial, cultural and psychological situation.
• Counsels patients providing culturally relevant treatment, crisis intervention and transition services.
• Assists families in integrating the medical, social and emotional dynamics of the disease/treatment into the context of their current life situation.
• Documents social work interactions in the EMR in a timely manner.
• Coordinates and links with community resources and agencies relative to health, protective services, crisis intervention, disability, schools, etc.
• Provides support for patients and their families, assisting with emotional, personal, psychological and socioeconomic factors, along with adjustment to illness issues. This includes the entire spectrum from diagnosis throughout the treatment phase, as well as the bereavement process, if necessary.
• Provides ongoing coordination of services to assist children with long-term chronic illnesses in managing the impact of the illness through the various phases of childhood, adolescence and/or transition into adulthood.
• Responds to the needs of culturally diverse and socially, intellectually or physically challenged patients.
• Organizes, plans, and manages time effectively.
• Available after regular business hours to address emergency situations, as needed.
• Meets position requirements and performs essential functions.
• Completes all mandatory training as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Master's degree

• Licensed Social Worker (LISW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) credential required- must be valid in South Carolina

• Minimum 1-3 years job-related experience in pediatrics

• Valid driver’s license

• Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

• Ability to speak, read and write effectively

• Ability to work independently without direct supervision

• Ability to coordinate, analyze, observe, make decisions, and meet deadlines, in a detail-oriented manner
