POSITION SUMMARY Under the general supervision of the Vice President of Marketing and Communications, the Communications Director will lead day-to-day execution of Planned Parenthood Great River’s communications work. This individual will manage the department’s earned media and digital media footprints in partnership with the marketing and brand team, PPGR’s paid media team, and advocacy team. The Communications Director must be a strategic thinker, quick writer, and able to meet hard deadlines while managing relationships with media stakeholders and collaborating deeply with internal stakeholders including cross-departmental teams.
The Marketing and Communications team is responsible for setting a strategic public narrative that promotes the work of protecting and expanding access to sexual and reproductive health care. This department holds a 360 lens on external-facing communications work, which impacts the organization’s ability to provide patient-centered health care and advocate for all people’s rights and freedoms to control their own bodies, lives, and futures.  This position may fulfill the cell phone reimbursement policy requirements. 
QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE    3-5 years in campaign style communications and/or public relations work.   Proficiency in AP Style writing   Ability to build and execute 360 communications plans   Ability to work some nights and weekends   Ability to do limited travel to all health center locations within PPGR’s regions   Ability to manage a budget   Effective public speaking skills; such as serving as a spokesperson, conducting media trainings, and giving other presentations
PRIMARY DUTIES PERFORMED ●   Write and copy/edit communications assets including, but not limited to, talking points, press releases, op-eds, and other external facing materials   Maintain strong national and local media stakeholder relationships Collaborate and coordinate with coalition partners   Prep, train, and staff affiliate spokespeople and patient storytellers, while sometimes serving as a spokesperson yourself   Pitch and place earned media   Ensure all communications materials including marketing, digital, and other assets consistently reflect PPGR’s tone and voice   Create and execute 360 communications campaigns that reflect organizing opportunities, earned media narratives, and support policy and operational goals   Track and monitor relevant media clips and mentions using our media monitoring tools
