The Senior Project Manager leads multiple highly complex, cross-functional projects that advance organizational priorities. This role facilitates alignment among enterprise-wide stakeholders to achieve shared goals, resolve conflicting interests, and deliver measurable outcomes. The Senior PM owns the full project lifecycle — from initiation through execution and post-implementation — while mentoring junior PMO staff and contributing to broader process improvement initiatives.

Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for business and technical stakeholders across departments, vendors, and executive leadership.
  • Build and maintain project schedules, resource plans, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Lead multiple, enterprise-wide projects with significant complexity, visibility, and impact.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with management, vendors, cross-functional team members, and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor and manage project budgets, resource allocations, and vendor contracts; make necessary course corrections to meet financial targets.
  • Prepare and contribute to business development and project management artifacts (e.g., RFPs, SOWs, project charters, timelines, evaluation frameworks).
  • Work with Executive Sponsors and project leads to develop comprehensive project charters outlining scope, objectives, timelines, and success metrics.
  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical (internal and external) audiences to ensure shared understanding of scope, risks, and dependencies.
  • Provide leadership to a diverse, matrixed project team which may include other Project Management staff as well as all levels of management.
  • Facilitate effective project status meetings, steering committees, and executive briefings.
  • Collaborate with business owners and IT to ensure systems and solutions deliver meaningful value and ROI.
  • Represent the PMO in cross-departmental forums and serve as a trusted advisor to leadership on key initiatives.
  • Lead process improvement and business process re-engineering efforts that uncover operational efficiencies and may initiate new project work (when needed).
  • Demonstrate advanced expertise in time management, facilitation, organizational communication, and negotiation to achieve project goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required):

  • Proficiency with modern project management tools preferred (e.g., MS Project, Jira, Smartsheet, ServiceNow, etc.).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
  • Strong analytical and financial acumen, including budget tracking and resource forecasting.
  • Knowledge of Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid project methodologies.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant professional experience. Master’s preferred.

AND

Experience:

  • 5+ years of progressive project management experience, with demonstrated success leading large-scale, complex initiatives.
  • Experience in healthcare, payer systems, or highly regulated environments preferred.

Minimum Certifications, Registration or License Requirements:

PMP, PMI-ACP, or equivalent certification strongly preferred.
