About the role

Hover helps people design, improve, and protect the properties they love. With proprietary AI built on over a decade of real property data, Hover answers age-old questions like “What will it look like?” and “What will it cost?” Homeowners, contractors, and insurance professionals rely on Hover to get fully measured, accurate, and interactive 3D models of any property — all from a smartphone scan in minutes.

At Hover, we’re driven by curiosity, purpose, and a shared commitment to serving our customers, communities, and each other. Why Hover wants you

At Hover, we’re transforming how construction professionals design, document, scope, and estimate properties with modern tools for industries long underserved by software. We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer who is excited to build interaction-heavy product experiences, raise the quality bar, and lead cross-team delivery that ships to customers and measurably improves the product.

You will be trusted to drive initiatives end to end, bringing in perspective early (design, product, and partner engineering teams), and championing consistent, high-quality UX through strong engineering craft and design system discipline.

You will contribute by

As a Senior Software Engineer on the team, you’ll work on design features to help homeowners and construction pros create the perfect home for home renovations. You’ll collaborate across the stack (frontend, APIs, backend systems) to ship customer-facing experiences and ship to customers, from the systems that power AI-driven design to the polished workflows that make editing and sharing designs feel effortless. You’ll own complex features end to end, from discovery and planning through launch and iteration, while improving the platform and UI foundations that keep our product consistent, fast, and maintainable. Most weeks you’ll be writing RFCs or tech specs, then executing through a mix of solo work and pair programming across the stack to ship innovative product experiences that delight users. You’ll partner closely with Product Managers and Designers, using customer feedback to continuously improve the user experience. Along the way, you’ll collaborate with engineers to design and evolve systems, refactor safely with solid test coverage, and deploy to production frequently.

You’ll also raise the team’s bar through high-signal PR reviews, mentoring, and pairing, and you’ll champion UX consistency and accessibility by driving design system adoption and closing the highest-impact gaps.

On our team, you will work on:

  • Contributing to and advocating for our design system
  • Prompt and material management that powers image generation and specific material application (siding, roofing, windows, and more), using Ruby on Rails and ComfyUI.
  • 2D and 3D model experiences for applying materials and making detailed edits to a home, using React and Ruby on Rails
  • Engagement features like saving, organizing, and sharing designs
  • Embedded design capabilities that bring Hover’s experiences onto manufacturer and construction pro sites

Your background includes

  • 7+ years of experience building modern frontend applications with JavaScript/TypeScript and React (React Native a plus).
  • Deep expertise in React architecture, including component design, state management, performance, and accessibility.
  • A high bar for UX quality and consistency, with experience contributing to or evolving a centralized design system/component library.
  • Experience building accessible, WCAG-compliant applications.
  • Strong experience working with GraphQL and RESTful APIs, including close collaboration on API design.
  • Proficiency with modern frontend tooling such as Vite, Webpack, NPM, and related ecosystems.
  • Demonstrated senior-level ownership: you turn ambiguous problems into clear plans and shipped outcomes with sound technical and product judgment.
  • Comfort collaborating across the stack, partnering effectively with backend and platform engineers.
  • Strong product instincts and the ability to make pragmatic tradeoffs between speed, quality, and long-term maintainability.
  • A customer-first mindset, empathy for users, and excellent written and verbal communicati
