About the role
Jasper is a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing briquilimab, a novel antibody targeting c-Kit (CD117) as a therapeutic for chronic mast and stem cell diseases. Jasper is currently conducting clinical studies of briquilimab as a treatment in patients with CSU or with CIndU and is initiating a clinical study in patients with asthma. Briquilimab is also currently in clinical studies as a treatment for patients with LR-MDS and as a conditioning agent for cell therapies for rare diseases. To date, briquilimab has a demonstrated efficacy and safety profile in more than 160 dosed participants and healthy volunteers, with clinical outcomes in CIndU, and as a conditioning agent in severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID), acute myeloid leukemia (AML), myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), Fanconi anemia (FA), and sickle cell disease (SCD).
Position Summary
- This position will oversee and manage all Jasper office, laboratory, vivarium and utility space in Redwood City, California. This includes research and vivarium laboratories ensuring all building-related infrastructure and support services function well, remain cost-effective, and are scalable commensurate with Jasper’s growth. Maintaining a high degree of quality, security, and compliance are paramount.
Specific Responsibilities
- Manage properties with pride ensuring function, cleanliness, and organization
- Assist with capital planning for facilities, including renovations, repairs, upgrades, and new construction projects
- Plan, select, propose, and implement equipment and systems upgrades and replacements to ensure efficiency and cost control
- Work with management to achieve maximum utilization of assigned facilities space
- Create and maintain vendor relationships to support building needs
- Assemble, lead, coach and mentor maintenance team to achieve goals and enhance performance.
- Ensure staff are well-trained on equipment, safety procedures, and company standards
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance, calibration, qualification and commissioning programs for all equipment, utilizing Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Manage and prepare the department budget for space utilization, standard office furniture, capital and leasehold items, time and material maintenance and equipment maintenance
- Interact with the landlord to manage facility related obligations
- Coordinate system repairs and monitor system performance
- Execute equipment audits and record-taking policies
- Ensure all facilities comply with local, state, and federal regulations regarding building codes, health and safety standards, and other industry-specific requirements. Lead the facilities through inspections, audits, and safety assessments.
- Manage EH&S functions, EH&S consultant and contractors, waste collection and disposal, compliance, inspections and audits
- Oversite of Lab Management and lab manager, responsible for lab consumables (procurement, budgeting, stocking, inventory) instrument/equipment PM’s, calibrations, service contracts, instrument repairs, temperature monitoring systems and support
- Clearly communicate project timelines and hold teams accountable for on-time, on-budget delivery
- Ensure properly functioning facility infrastructure including HVAC, electrical, plumbing and other systems supporting regulated life sciences R&D
- Provides troubleshooting support as needed
- Provides overall directions and sets priorities for the site improvement projects and activities
- Plans and coordinates major maintenance activities, including scheduled site shutdowns
- Will be responsible for the effective 24/7 uninterrupted support of facilities operational activities and security
Requirements
- 10+ years of broad facilities management experience in a life science environment required
- Hands on troubleshooting and repair experience
- Experience working around hazardous or infectious waste, chemicals, biological hazards in a Research and Development setting.
- Supervisory experience in Facilities of at least 5 years including both people and project management and departmental budgetary responsibility
- Experience working with appropriate government agencies for permitting and approval of complex projects required
- Prior vendor management and superior negotiation skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
- Strong facility-related (e.g. mechanical, electrical, plumbing and other systems supporting regulated life sciences R&D) assessment and troubleshooting skills
- Experience providing efficient, timely, reliable and courteous service to customers
