Job Description Summary
The AMRT Global Process Development team is seeking a Lead Engineer – Laser Cladding to join our Joining Technology Team and play a critical role in advancing our global repair capabilities. This position will serve as a technical engineer focused on the development, qualification, and execution of repairs using Laser Cladding technology supporting our global RVS service center network.The ideal candidate will bring technical expertise in laser cladding processes, metallurgical principles, repair development, and industrial execution, along with the ability to work across regions and functions to standardize best practices, solve complex repair challenges, and support implementation at scale.
This is a highly collaborative role requiring close partnership with NRI and LCE engineering, service centers, operations, quality, and supply chain, to ensure safe, repeatable, and high-quality repair solutions that meet business and customer needs.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Lead the technical development and industrialization of Laser Cladding repair processes for service applications.
- Provide global engineering support to RVS service centers in the assessment, development, qualification, and execution of repairs using Laser Cladding technology.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for Laser Cladding process parameters, equipment, materials, metallurgy, and repair performance.
- Develop and maintain engineering standards, repair procedures, process documentation, and best practices to enable consistent deployment across global locations.
- Partner with service center teams to troubleshoot process, equipment, and quality issues related to Laser Cladding repairs.
- Support the qualification and validation of new repair methods, new technology platforms, process capability, metallurgical evaluation, NDE requirements, and performance verification.
- Collaborate with design, materials, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure repairs are technically sound, compliant, and executable in production environments.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, cycle time, cost, and process robustness.
- Support technology transfer and capability build-up across global service centers through training, coaching, and hands-on technical guidance.
- Participate in root cause investigations and corrective actions for repair deviations or field/service issues.
- Contribute to long-term strategy for Laser Cladding capability expansion and modernization within the repair network.
- Travel globally as needed to support implementation, issue resolution, and capability development.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Metallurgy, Welding Engineering, or related technical field; in lieu of degree, min. 5 years of experience in Welding and 4 years of experience in Laser Cladding technologies.
- Demonstrated experience developing and executing GT repair processes in an industrial or service environment.
- Experience supporting cross-functional teams in solving complex technical and operational challenges.
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally up to 10-15% yearly.
Desired Characteristics
- Experience supporting global service centers, repair shops, or manufacturing sites.
- Knowledge of turbine, rotating equipment, or high-value component repair processes.
- Familiarity with relevant industry codes, standards, and AMRT repair qualification methodologies.
- Experience with process automation or programming.
- Project leadership or technical experience in a matrixed global organization.
