Fortuna is seeking an experienced Senior Professional Technical Writer to join a long-term, fully remote engagement supporting documentation development for enterprise-level applications and systems. This individual will work closely with technical teams to translate complex data into accessible and organized documentation for both internal and external users. The role spans content creation, planning, and leadership in documentation efforts across the software development lifecycle.
Position: Senior Professional Technical Writer
Worksite: Teleworker/Offsite - USA (Massachusetts preferred)
Work Schedule: Full-time | Remote | Must be available during standard business hours (EST)
Compensation:
Contract Length: June 9, 2025 - June 30, 2027

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
-
Research, write, edit, and proofread complex technical content for manuals, procedures, specifications, and help systems

Translate highly technical information into user-friendly documentation for various audiences

Determine documentation scope, timeline, and resource requirements for new and existing projects

Interview programmers, engineers, and other stakeholders to gather in-depth information

Compile system and software documentation packages including logic diagrams, sample inputs/outputs, and procedural guides

Develop and maintain online help files and user guides

Establish and maintain style guidelines and standards for all technical writing deliverables

Provide leadership and mentoring to junior writers and support staff
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience (Communications, Journalism, or Technical Writing preferred)

6+ years of experience in technical writing for software or systems environments

Proficiency with desktop publishing, word processing, and online documentation tools

Strong command of writing style, grammar, sentence structure, and document organization

Experience working with company-specific software products (preferred but not required)
Other Qualifications:

Excellent communication, editing, and proofreading skills

Ability to synthesize and simplify complex technical data for general users

Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively

Strong personal computer skills and familiarity with business solutions software
Note: This is a remote position supporting teams based in Massachusetts. Candidate must be available during normal business hours (Eastern Time).
