Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.

Job Description

As a key member of the O&T (Operations & Technology) Finance team, the Director, Finance is responsible for all O&T related costs for News Group O&T. The overall finance coverage for the scope of responsibility is $70M+ operating cash flow. The process includes ownership of the overall cost base as well as management of the rate card/ allocation process to productions.

This role provides the unique opportunity to gain a solid understanding of NBCU operations through daily exposure/interaction with O&T operational teams as well as the greater NBCU finance organization. Some of the brands that we support are TODAY, NBC News Now, Nightly News, Meet the Press, etc.

Position overview:

  • Own monthly and quarterly close processes through accurate pacing updates, variance analysis, journal entries, expense accruals, allocations, and other necessary closing activities
  • Lead the planning processes for all estimates, budgets, and long-range plans (LRP) for NGOT
  • Partner with operations teams and participate in regular business meetings, operations analysis, and strategic projects to drive productivity
  • Lead a variety of FP&A matters across NGOT
  • Create/update/maintain operating models for budgeting & tracking of expenses
  • Work with operators on KPIs and other ad hoc modeling
  • Perform P&L analysis, i.e. identifying risks and opportunities and assisting in summarizing performance in pitch presentations to senior management for estimates & plans
  • Track capital by integrating into operations teams to understand schedule and delivery
  • Create reports with metrics for budget and P&L tracking purposes
  • Maintain and support build out of various allocations
  • Process and analyze all the necessary reports in software tools including SAP, BW, Essbase, AOE, SNAP (AP tool), Purchase Manager (PO tool), and Concur (T&E)

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field
  • Ability to demonstrate FP&A experience
  • 5+ years of experience in Finance or Accounting
  • Ability to demonstrate operational finance experience
  • Proven experience of financial modeling, analysis and forecasting
  • Solid understanding of basic accounting principles: accruals, amortization of pre-paid expenses, P&L, balance sheet, and free cash flow
  • Must be proficient with MS Office Suite products – particularly advanced excel skills (comfortable with v-lookups, if statements, pivot tables, etc.) and PowerPoint
