Lead Backend/API Developer (Hybrid)

Our secure software factories are built on DoD reference designs and deliver modern applications to shape the future of defense, healthcare, and civilian agencies.Job Summary: We are seeking a Lead Backend/API Developer with deep expertise in backend systems, API development, and cloud technologies. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in delivering complex software systems for government multi-classified environments. You will lead a team of backend developers to create a user-focused application integrated with mission systems.This role requires close collaboration with the sponsor, operational test teams, and other stakeholders, making strong communication and leadership skills essential. Candidates must hold an active Top Secret/SCI clearance.

Responsibilities:

• Lead backend development efforts, mentoring senior and junior developers in delivering mission-critical software.
• Architect, develop, and optimize APIs and backend microservices to ensure seamless integration with front-end and mission systems.
• Oversee development using technologies such as AWS, PostgreSQL, RDS, S3 Buckets, Java Springboot, Node.js, and ELK stack.
• Design secure systems adhering to cybersecurity protocols for multi-classified networks.
• Plan and execute backend integration with cross-domain systems, SFTP, and other infrastructure elements.
• Collaborate with clients, operational test organizations, and stakeholders to align technical solutions with mission goals.
• Ensure compliance with Agile practices and CI/CD pipelines using GitLab, Jira, and Confluence.
• Support software transition from MVP to operational readiness, meeting test and integration requirements.
• Prepare and communicate development roadmaps and technical plans to stakeholders.

Skills / Qualifications:

• Active Top Secret/SCI clearance.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience in backend/API development.
• Proficiency with AWS (RDS, S3 Buckets, Cloud Development).
• Expertise in Java, Java Springboot, PostgreSQL, Gradle, Node.js, and React.
• Experience with ELK, Vite, Remix, Clam AV, and SFTP connection development.
• Proven success delivering secure software solutions for government multi-classified systems.
• Knowledge of Agile practices and tools such as Jira, Confluence, GitLab, and MatterMost.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of test and test integration processes, including collaboration with operational test teams.
• Familiarity with Human-Centered Design (HCD) and Design Thinking methodologies.
• Experience with mission system integration and cross-domain solutions.
