The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As a Product Development Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Leads the end-to-end development of innovative hardgoods products for fall protection, managing the entire product lifecycle from concept to commercialization, ensuring alignment with business strategy and market demands.
- Implements advanced technical solutions in the design and testing phases, driving product performance improvements that enhance the safety, reliability, and market competitiveness of 3M™ DBI-SALA® fall protection products.
- Determines key product development directions by analyzing market trends, customer feedback, and emerging technologies, contributing to both immediate project success and long-term product strategy.
- Supports cross-functional teams by providing technical expertise and fostering collaboration with marketing, manufacturing, and customer service to ensure the smooth transition of products from development to launch.
- Contributes to the development of intellectual property by documenting innovations and ensuring product designs are safeguarded under 3M’s intellectual property strategy, maintaining a competitive advantage.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) in a relevant engineering or scientific field (e.g., Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science) from an accredited institution
- Three (3) years of new product development experience, particularly in hardgoods, in a private, public, government or military environment
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, from an accredited institution
- Five (5) years of new product development and commercialization experience in a private, public, government or military environment
- Skills include strong leadership, project management, technical problem-solving, clear communication, and the ability to collaborate effectively within teams while also working independently.
Work location:
- Hybrid Eligible (Job Duties allow for some remote work but require travel to Red Wing, MN at least 4 days per week)
Travel: May include up to 5% Domestic or International travel
Relocation Assistance: May be authorized
