General

Purpose

We are seeking a reliable and motivated student employee to assist full-time staff with a variety of facilities-related tasks. The position supports the operational needs of the department and may include work in laboratories, offices, and various working conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with routine building inspections and report any issues to full-time staff
  • Support inventory management, including tracking, organizing
  • Perform cleaning tasks in lab spaces, particularly in concrete mixing.
  • Aid in item decontamination and preparation for surplus disposal
  • Help with office and furniture clean-outs, including sorting, moving, and organizing materials
  • Contribute to various small projects as assigned by staff (e.g., room setups, minor repairs, painting)
  • Safely lift and move items weighing up to 40 pounds- Use dolly or team member to lift or move heavier items.
  • Support Building department's high-volume shipping & receiving operations, ensuring quality customer service to all departmental constituents. Contact receivers for package pickup.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled student in good academic standing
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions carefully
  • Capable of performing physical labor, including lifting and moving heavy objects
  • Comfortable working in lab and facilities environments
  • Dependable, Punctual, and able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must be able to lift and carry 40 pounds or more
  • Must be able to climb stairs and walk between buildings

Salary Range

  • $15 per hour

Working Conditions

  • May involve lifting, standing, bending, or kneeling for extended periods
  • Climbing of stairs and ladders
  • Use of manual dexterity
  • May work in all weather conditions
  • May work around chemicals, electrical and mechanical hazards
  • May work around standard office conditions

Work Shift:

  • Up to 19 hours per week; Flexible hours M-F 8am- 3pm
  • May require availability during peak project times (e.g., end of semester, lab turnover)
