Physician Assistant Per Diem Days

JFK Memorial Hospital has provided medical care to residents in the Coachella Valley since 1966. A group of physicians, including Dr. Reynaldo Carreon, founded the hospital and today one of JFK’s cross streets is named in his honor. 

Originally called Indio Community Hospital, JFK has grown to a 145-bed acute-care hospital that is part of Tenet Healthcare California. It offers a variety of services, including: 
•Emergency care 24/7 
•Orthopedic and joint replacement services using emerging technology 
•Cardiovascular services 
•Maternity care and pediatric services 
•Ambulatory surgery center 
•Imaging services 
•Outpatient Rehabilitation Center 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Performs duties and tasks only under the direction of the operating surgeon and only within the scope of licensure. The Physician Assistant (PA) functions as an assistant to the surgeon in the operating room during surgical procedures. The PA performs only first assistant skills in accordance with hospital policy. In addition to first assisting, responsibilities may include circulating, scrubbing, and other duties as assigned.

1. Current California Physician Assistant (PA) license.
2. Completion of a PA course, including the completion of the required internship hours.
3. Functions as an assistant to the surgeon in the operating room during surgical procedures.
4. Effective verbal and written communication skills to communicate with people on all levels and able to maintain positive working relationships with patients, families, and co­workers inter- and intra-departmentally.
5. Possess active listening skills.
6. Compassionate, non-judgmental patient caregiver and advocate.
7. Must be able to tolerate physically and mentally demanding work.
8. Possesses audible acuity necessary for taking blood pressures and maintaining patient safety.
9. This position is for surgeon assistance in the Operating Room only, it is not a credentialed position with Medical Staff Services; no independent patient treatment, management, or billing occurs with this role. This role reports to the Director of Sugical Services and the Chief Nursing Officer.

 

Graduate degree from an accredited PA program. Experience in surgical assist in the Operating Room preferred.
