Position Overview:Reporting to the Vice Provost for Global Engagement, the Director oversees all aspects of the Office of International Students and Scholars in the Center for Global Engagement. This includes development, management and continuous improvement of a portfolio of programs that support curricular and co-curricular success, immigration compliance, retention and general well-being of international students and scholars.

Responsibilities:The Director oversees all aspects of the Office of International Students and Scholars in the Center for Global Engagement. The Director will manage a self-support budget and lead a team of professionals, graduate assistants and student workers. The Director will be responsible for ensuring institutional compliance with federal regulations pertaining to international students and scholars, and generating
reports. Duties include:
- Lead and direct assigned functional areas of the department, including enforcing policies and procedures, supervising personnel, managing budgets, setting goals, managing technology and operations.

Oversee immigration (e.g., F-1, H-1B, J-1) services for international students, faculty, staff and their dependents, including advice on immigration other technical issues, preparation of government forms and petitions, and development of resources.

Ensure UMBC's compliance with federal immigration and labor laws by monitoring developments in immigration policies, procedures, and regulations on a daily basis and represent the university, international students, scholars, faculty and their dependents to various state and federal government agencies; serve as both a Designated School Official and Alternate Responsible Officer; report daily in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).

Manage the delivery of cultural, educational and retention programming for international students, faculty, staff and their dependents including, but not limited to, Orientation, International Career Conference cultural excursions and immigration and cross-cultural training workshops for faculty, staff
and students. -
Develop appropriate campus policies and procedures relating to international students, faculty, staff and their dependents.

Serve on various internal and external committees, such as International Student Recruitment and Retention, Campus Climate, Academic Advising, and Graduate Program Directors, designed to reach the university community regarding to international student and scholar issues.
- Bachelor's degree
- 5 years of experience working in an international student and scholar services office at a college or university
- 3 years of experience serving as a Principal/Designated School Official or Alternate/Responsible Officer
- Substantive experience living, working or studying outside of the United States
- Eligibility to receive approval from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to serve as Designated School Official and Responsible Officer (requires U.S. citizenship or U.S. legal permanent residence)
