Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is recruiting for a Database Team Lead to maintain the database and table structures needed by DOE applications and reporting.
The Database Team Lead would be expected to perform the following duties:
- Utilize team resources, guides team to on-time completion of assigned project tasks according to documentation and technical requirements noted in the SDLC.
- Work with team for on-time completion of Sprints as assigned for AGILE projects.
- Ensure the consistent and appropriate application of governance and standards across the team on all projects.
- Work with Management to establish and document governance, standards, and processes and create structures to maintain the same.
- Evaluate and assist in formulation of overall solution strategies and roadmaps for the database team.
- Research and advise on existing and emerging technology to enhance and improve DOE systems.
- Develop technology strategy and planning deliverables to address IT risks and improve the effectiveness of the IT organization, including organizing and leading POCs for new technology integrations.
- Participate in the planning, scheduling, and scoping of Sprints on AGILE projects.
- Work with other leads on the team to ensure seamless communication of needs, ideas, statuses, dependencies, etc.
- Help the team to identify and prioritize work across projects internal and external, maintenance, and support needs to ensure on-time delivery of stable systems that meet requirements.

- Respond to requests for assistance through service request in a timely manner.
Minimum Qualifications
- Extensive experience in designing and maintaining databases, creating data models, and data management.
- Experience integrating data from diverse sources, such as APIs, databases, and flat files.
- Advanced proficiency in SQL. Proven knowledge and hands on experience with PL/SQL scripting including stored procedures, functions, triggers and packages.
- Hands on experience in performance tuning to ensure efficient execution times while querying large datasets from a database.
- Ability to troubleshoot errors related to data or other programmatic issues.
- Skills in cloud platforms like AWS, Azure and OCI.
- Experience with ETL tools like Talend.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to work on multiple projects and contribute to project scope and estimates of effort.
Additional Considerations
- College degree in information systems, computer science, or related field or demonstrated progressively responsible experience in developing and maintaining information systems.
