Job Description

 

AECOM is seeking a Senior Environmental Scientist with experience in water resources, watershed planning, NPDES Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) compliance, and project management for our Raleigh, NC or Arlington, VA offices.  In this role, the successful candidate will lead water resources, watershed, and stormwater compliance projects for federal, state, and municipal clients. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 8 years of experience with municipal and federal facility stormwater programs, MS4 permits, stormwater design, inspections, and monitoring, TMDL planning, and overseeing projects. The candidate will work collaboratively with other senior staff and be responsible for coordination and completion of various project elements. The candidate will serve in a senior client-focused role leading and managing project, producing high quality deliverables, maintaining project schedules, coordination with clients, contributing to practice growth, and mentoring junior staff. 

Responsibilities will include: 

  • Lead or support high-profile, complex planning projects, such as MS4 compliance projects, watershed studies, water regional master plans, and other planning or restoration studies.
  • Lead or support watershed and water quality assessments and conventional aspects of watershed planning and BMP prioritization
  • Provide technical support in the areas of environmental and stormwater management research, field work, stormwater analysis, and stormwater monitoring.
  • Evaluate stormwater programs and project costs.
  • Prepare written and graphic reports and make presentations.
  • Prepare scientific documents regarding stormwater, water quality, watershed management, and best management practices.
  • Attend client meetings and coordinate with regulatory agencies.
  • Develop and manage project budgets and schedules.
  • Participate in local and regional water resources organizations, as appropriate on behalf of AECOM.
  • Some local travel will be required and occasional travel outside of local area may be required. 

     

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • BA/BS + 8 years of experience of demonstrated equivalency of experience and / or education.
    • Experience working in the capacity of a project manager.
    • Experienced in business development and client relationship management with municipal, state, and federal agencies.
    • Valid Driver’s License and must be able to pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review.
    • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Master’s degree in environmental sciences, natural resources, or related field and 10 years of directly applicable experience.
    • ·Experience developing strategies and planning documents related to NPDES stormwater management, TMDL development or compliance, and water quality related studies
    • Ability to write well, distill supporting information in the scientific literature, communicate technical issues to a wide range of readers.
    • Strong, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
    • Understanding of personal role in supporting marketing of company services by delivering high-quality, accurate work products to external and internal clients
    • Proficient in using software applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite and ArcGIS.

    Additional Information

    • Relocation is not available for this position. 
    • Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.

    Offered rate of compensation (North Carolina) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position typically is $70,000 - $115,000.
