Job Profile Summary:
The Supervisor, Lab Faculty supports the learning labs including high fidelity simulation labs as defined by the WGU National Pre-licensure curriculum. The incumbent is responsible for assuring high quality lab experiential learning for students, for providing quality oversight, training, guidance and evaluation of all lab instructors and simulation technicians within the state to ensure national consistency of lab experiences and instructor performance. The position reports to the Senior Supervisor, Lab Academics.
The Supervisor, Lab Faculty is an expert lab instructor and a role model to all lab instructors and simulation technicians within the state. This position is responsible for providing high quality learning, ensuring consistency with the national curriculum, and ensuring consistency and expertise in the required documentation of student performance; including assessment tools and communication with the lab scheduling team. This position is a subject matter expert (SME) in the use of simulation, particularly high-fidelity simulation in the instruction of pre-licensure nursing curriculum, and delegates to population-specific SMEs/ instructors (Medical-Surgical, Pediatric etc.) as appropriate. When serving in the role of Lab Instructor, the Supervisor, Lab Faculty is the instructor of record responsible for the oversight of several cohorts of student nurses in the lab learning lab and at the lab site, teaching both nursing lab skills and simulated patient care situational scenarios. Courses range from Fundamentals, Medical/Surgical Nursing, Critical Care, Pediatrics, and Women's Health -- giving the Supervisor, Lab Faculty a full range of teaching and leadership responsibilities. Additionally, this Supervisor position leads a team of learning lab instructors and simulation technicians, and is responsible for training, onboarding, coaching, and development of all lab faculty and staff within the designated state or region to ensure consistency of instruction, assessment, and documentation of the student learning experience.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
· Support students in the identification of their individual learning needs.
· Provide and maintain consistent lab learning experience for students and staff.
· Lead and develop a team of highly engaged learning lab instructors and simulation technicians.
· Incorporate student and self as an integral part of the nursing team in the provision of safe patient care when teaching in a simulated environment.
· Ensure a safe and healthy work environment; i.e., complies with college of health and safety policies, practices, and programs in keeping with occupational health & safety legislation and regulation.
· Models professional standards, including customer service, collaboration, communication, excellence, attendance, and consistency with the Leavitt School of Health mission, vision and philosophy.
· Performs remediation with students in skills area as needed.
· Works closely with college staff to appropriately integrate lab operations, obtain maximum utilization for the most efficient expenditure, and to moderate student costs.
