The Senior Product Development Scientist/Engineer, Aligners is responsible for the development of new prosthetic dental devices and digital dental processes. This role will be responsible for developing the base digital dental processes used in the development of prosthetic devices. The role collaborates closely with all internal R&D disciplines as well as with external partners to ensure success in a timely and cost-effective manner.

 

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Lead the creation of prototype design concepts, lead design Verification and Validation efforts, and assist with manufacturing implementation.
  • Collaborate with our Quality, Regulatory, Marketing, Technology Transfers, Software and hardware teams, Manufacturing, and other cross functional teams to support various project workstreams.
  • Complete independent and team research projects involving aligner manufacturing technologies, preparing for regulatory submissions and successfully integrate to commercialization.
  • Participate in writing research proposals, reports, patent applications, presentations, and publications.
  • Apply personal scientific knowledge/lead team efforts to design and develop material and processing solutions that meet product design requirements and ensure marketplace success.
  • Develop and communicate material and design specifications to relevant design partners and stakeholders.
  • Assist in departmental strategic plans and policies.
  • Provide technical leadership to cross-functional product development teams.
  • Complete all necessary training on pertinent Global, Pillar and Departmental procedures and maintain a Training Log documenting successful completion of each procedure. In addition, the associate must apply the learnings to ensure high quality products.
  • Work practices and procedures meet Dentsply Sirona’s Standard Operating Procedures for design, commercialization, and manufacture of medical devices.
  • Provide verbal and written reports of activities to senior management. 
  • Conduct literature / web-based searches to assist in designing experiments, developing test methods, and finding sources for experimental materials.
  • This position is responsible for leading research and development for aligners ensuring material and process applicability to existing and new products to address unmet needs and leading the team through the technical development process. 
  • Complete independent and team research projects involving aligners and assigned R&D projects.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Biocompatibility, cellular interactions, and efficacy of Oral health products
  • Conduct hands-on experiments by designing, fabricating, testing, and evaluating novel concepts.
  • Conduct biological, mechanical and/or physical property evaluation and testing of dental materials and biocompatibility testing to generate documentation to support and substantiate new products and / or process improvements.
