Director, Safety - Data & Systems

Description

The Director, Safety Data & Systems is responsible for leading the design, implementation, and optimization of EHS&S systems and safety data infrastructure across the organization. This role ensures the integrity, consistency, and usability of safety-related data to drive continuous improvement and regulatory compliance.

Serving as a key functional expert, this position oversees the collection, mapping, analysis, and reporting of EHS&S data in formats that are understandable, repeatable, and actionable for long-term performance tracking. While this role does not directly support business operations, it provides critical insights and tools to enable the Regional EHS&S Managers to make informed decisions based on data.

Key Responsibilities

EHS&S Systems Implementation & Management

• Lead the selection, deployment, and ongoing management of digital EHS&S platforms and tools.
• Ensure system architecture supports accurate data capture, standardized processes, and cross-functional usability.
• Maintain system governance protocols to support data integrity, security, and long-term scalability.

Training & User Enablement

• Develop and deliver training programs for system users across the organization, including EHS&S professionals and leadership teams.
• Create reference materials, SOPs, and support documentation to promote consistent system usage.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for system troubleshooting and user support.

Data Mapping & Standardization

• Establish and maintain data taxonomy, mapping, and structures that ensure consistent classification and coding across all safety records.
• Work with internal stakeholders to align safety data definitions and usage with organizational requirements and regulatory standards.

Data Analysis & Insights

• Analyze safety performance data and generate clear, concise reports, dashboards, and metrics.
• Identify patterns, trends, and anomalies in incident, audit, training, and compliance data.
• Provide interpretation of data to Regional EHS&S Managers to inform their regional strategies and risk reduction efforts.

Reporting & Long-Term Data Strategy

• Develop and maintain repeatable, scalable reporting mechanisms for long-term tracking and visualization of EHS&S performance.
• Deliver standardized reports to internal stakeholders and executive leadership, ensuring alignment with key safety indicators and compliance benchmarks.
• Support data requests related to internal audits, external inquiries, and regulatory submissions.

Requirements

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or related field.
• Minimum 8–10 years of experience in EHS&S with a focus on systems management and data analytics.
• Expertise with EHS&S platforms (e.g., Enablon, VelocityEHS, Intelex, Gensuite, or similar).
• Strong analytical skills, with advanced proficiency in Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or similar data visualization tools.
• Deep knowledge of EHS&S compliance frameworks and reporting requirements.
• Excellent communication and training skills; ability to explain technical data to non-technical audiences.
• High attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy and integrity.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certifications such as CSP, CIH, or Six Sigma Green/Black Belt.
• Familiarity with Responsible Care or ISO 14001/45001 management systems.
• Experience working in regulated industries such as chemical, manufacturing, or logistics.
