Senior Systems Engineer, Linux

Position Summary
As STERIS continues to expand its global presence, the primary purpose of the Senior, Linux Systems Administrator is to provide technical input to on-premises and Cloud platform and systems design, development, and implementation, as well as responsibility for the development and delivery of Linux technology. This includes responsibility for translating global business needs and functional specifications into technical requirements and delivering integrated and sustainable designs for complex and high impact Linux systems. You will drive overall development and deployment efforts and collaborates effectively with resources across functions to design and deliver technology, platform, and system solutions, providing solution options, making recommendations, and highlighting operational or security risks.
You will lead several projects with medium-to-high complexity simultaneously, providing direction and oversight of analysts and engineers supporting the projects. This includes collaboration with cross-functional partners as well as senior leadership.
*This position is onsite in Mentor, Ohio with a hybrid work opportunity.
Duties
• Evaluates industry technologies to shape design of services in consideration of cost, portability, compatibility, or usability factors. Identifies and makes appropriate changes to technologies, integrated platforms, and systems to meet customer and operational requirements
• Continuously seeks to more efficiently manage and utilize technology, platforms, and systems
• Leads effort to regularly updates technology, platform, systems, and related documentation to ensure operational health and security
• Highlights design risks, provide alternative options, and recommends quality solutions to specified problems
• Monitors technology, platform, and systems to ensure required performance, availability, and capacity. Identifies gaps in monitoring and potential impact on service delivery
• Develops and validates complex system design prototypes, ensuring system designs adhere to company architecture standards
• Leads the building of complex hardware and/or software configurations and prepares system components for installation to the infrastructure
• Helps negotiate moderate to large scale vendor technology SOWs and managed service agreements
• Develops, maintains, and tests infrastructure platforms within Enterprise Systems Services to ensure adequate security architecture, policies, and procedures are in-place
• Diagnoses and resolves complex technical hardware and software issues, taking ownership of issue resolution, researching solutions as required, and escalating to 3rd line support when appropriate
• Proactively identifies and implements automation and scripting that improves staff efficiencies and reduces the need for manual checklist completions
• Troubleshoots issues, identifies root cause, and implements permanent solutions that mitigate problems from occurring again
• Matures IT support processes and creates, documents, and implements standard IT procedures
• Deploys infrastructure applications across a multitude of servers and Enterprise Systems Services-supported operating systems
• Focuses on the delivery of prescriptive/automated monitoring for all critical systems and services
• Serves as the project lead on multi-discipline technical projects based on business requirements
• Develops project plans for development, testing, and implementation, including WBS (resources, effort, duration, predecessor/successor, dates, etc.)
• Submits project plans for review and implements approved plans
Required Experience
• Bachelors Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or other related technical degree.
• Minimum eight years full-time experience or equivalent on the job training is required
• In lieu of degree sixteen years of full-time experience required
• Experience in a Linux Cloud and on-premises environment with experience migration workloads across data centers, with technical experience in distributed technologies
• 6 Years’ Infrastructure engineering experience working across multiple domains, platforms, or specialty areas
• 5 Years’ experience leading projects with or without direct supervision
• Focus on the delivery of prescriptive/automated monitoring for all critical systems and services
• System and application administration experience with multiple Linux operating systems and critical Storage Management platforms
• At least six years in infrastructure application administration
