Research and Development Scientist - Mass Spectrometry

About the role
Who We Are Looking For We are looking for a highly skilled scientist—demonstrating a self-reliant approach and proficient in research—to join our team as a research and development scientist focused in mass spectrometry. As part of USANA’s in-house team, you will develop and implement robust, reproducible mass spectrometry-based analytical methods for characterizing food, nutrition supplements, and biological samples from clinical research. In this position, you will design and optimize HPLC, ICP-MS, single-and triple-quad mass spectrometry assays as needed to analyze food and supplement products as well as clinical samples. It is expected that you will meet regularly with other team members to coordinate work schedules and relay findings and results, contribute effectively to other groups within R&D—which will include technical report writing and presentation of complex ideas and findings—and assist in the preparation of scientific manuscripts, SOPs, technical reports and other writing endeavors. To be successful in this role, you must be extremely organized, be comfortable working independently, have the capacity to generate, compile, and evaluate materials to support product development and clinical research, and be confident in your research knowledge and expertise. What You Will Also Do as a Research and Development Scientist in Mass Spectrometry
- Analyze samples and data and interpret results to ensure robust assay performance
- Document experiment results according to company procedures.
- Troubleshoot and solve complex technical problems related to assay development
- Create and develop standard operating procedures
- Report progress to supervisor/management on a regular basis
- MS in biology, chemistry, or related field; or bachelor’s degree with years of relevant industry experience
- Proven experience in mass spectrometer assay development
- Strong problem-solving skills with a creative approach to developing innovative solutions
- Strong analytical data interpretation and decision-making skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
