Director, Software Engineering

Canopy, a cutting-edge startup in the automotive industry, is seeking a highly motivated Director of Software Engineering to join our team. As a leader in our growing company, you'll be integral to developing and executing our technical strategy to support our mission of protecting vehicle owners from theft. As our Director of Software Engineering, you will be responsible for leading our software development team while reporting to senior executives. Responsibilities

• Collaborate with executive leadership and other stakeholders to align software development initiatives with business goals and priorities.
• Manage all aspects of software development including design, coding, testing, and deployment.
• Develop and maintain software development processes, quality control, and coding standards.
• Oversee software architecture, design, and documentation.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate hardware and software components to optimize performance and provide seamless customer experience.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in software engineering and provide thought leadership to the team.
• Manage the software department budget.
• Collaborate with cross-functional leadership, including product management, UX/UI design, and hardware engineering, to ensure seamless integration and successful product releases.
• Recruit, hire, train, and develop top-tier software engineering talent.
• Lead strategic organizational decisions and plans, shape the software engineering organization.
• Establish clear goals, objectives, and performance metrics for the team, and regularly provide feedback and performance evaluations
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders, providing regular updates on project status, risks, and opportunities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years of software engineering experience with 5+ years of experience in managing and leading software development teams.
• Strong experience with software development processes, coding standards, and quality control.
• Excellent knowledge of cloud-based platforms such as AWS.
• In-depth knowledge of modern software development languages, frameworks, and tools.
• Experience with artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to adapt to a fast-paced, evolving environment and manage multiple priorities.
