JOB TITLE:
Post Doctoral Research Associate
JOB PURPOSE:
The primary purpose of this Postdoctoral Research Associate position is to conduct research in the medicinal chemistry lab, focusing on the design, synthesis, and characterization of novel compounds. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of new therapeutic agents, collaborating with other lab members, and disseminating research findings through publications and scientific conference presentations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, Synthesize, and Characterize Novel Compounds: Develop and execute synthetic routes to novel compounds, and characterize their physical and chemical properties.
- Contribute to Therapeutic Agent Development: Utilize expertise in medicinal chemistry to contribute to the development of new therapeutic agents, from concept to preclinical evaluation.
- Develop and Implement New Research Methods: Stay current with advancements in medicinal chemistry and develop new research methods, techniques, and protocols to improve the lab's research capabilities.
- Collaborate with Lab Members: Work closely with other researchers, scientists, and students in the lab to achieve common research goals.
- Assist in Research Data Management: Organize, analyze, and maintain large datasets, ensuring data integrity and compliance with research standards.
- Maintain Laboratory Operations: Ensure the laboratory is well-maintained, organized, and compliant with safety protocols, and assist in ordering supplies and managing inventory.
- Participate in Lab Meetings and Seminars: Attend and actively participate in lab meetings, seminars, and workshops, presenting research updates and engaging in discussions to advance the lab's research goals.
- Publish Research Findings: Prepare and submit manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals, showcasing research outcomes and advancements.
- Present Research at Scientific Conferences: Attend and present research at national and international conferences, fostering knowledge sharing and networking opportunities.
SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
- Mentor and Train Junior Researchers: Guide and mentor graduate students, undergraduate students, or research assistants in the lab, providing expertise and oversight in their research projects.
- Assist in Grant Writing and Funding Proposals: Contribute to the development of grant proposals, funding applications, and research reports to secure funding for the lab's research projects.
- Collaborate with External Partners: Engage with external partners, such as industry collaborators, academia, or government agencies, to advance research projects and facilitate knowledge transfer.
- Develop Educational Materials and Resources: Create educational materials, such as tutorials, protocols, and guidelines, to support the training and development of junior researchers in the lab.
COMPETENCIES:
1. Technical Expertise:
- Synthetic Chemistry: Demonstrate advanced proficiency in designing and executing complex, multi-step synthetic routes to novel organic molecules, with a strong understanding of reaction mechanisms and optimization strategies.
- Analytical Chemistry: Possess in-depth expertise in various analytical techniques, including NMR, MS, and chromatography, with the ability to interpret and analyze data accurately.
2. Research and Innovation:
- Research Design: Develop and propose innovative, high-impact research projects, with a track record of at least 2 publications or presentations in reputable scientific forums within the last 2 years.
- Literature Review: Conduct thorough, critical literature reviews, staying current with the latest developments and trends in medicinal chemistry, and demonstrating a deep understanding of the field.
3. Collaboration and Communication:
- Teamwork: Collaborate effectively with colleagues, contributing to at least 2 joint publications
