Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Student Engagement, the Assistant Director for Recreation and Wellness oversees a number of areas within Student Life. The Assistant Director is responsible for the Fitness Center, Intramurals, Club Sports, Spirit Squads and all Recreation and Wellness Programming. Managing a staff of work study positions, which includes the hiring and training of staff for all areas, the Assistant Director ensures that Manhattan University has a vibrant social scene based upon physical well-being. This is an in-person on-campus non-remote position.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, scheduling and execution of a dynamic intramurals program, in which multiple sports leagues are held throughout the year, at the same time.

  • Manage all aspects of club sports at Manhattan University, which currently includes men's and women's rowing, tennis, ultimate frisbee, flag football, club soccer and club basketball.

  • Oversees the E-Sports program at Manhattan University, which competes in a number of competitive leagues within the MAAC conference.

  • Manage the daily operations of the Fitness Center, located in the Raymond Kelly Student Commons, and open to all current members of our Manhattan University community.

  • Directly supervise the Spirit Squads, including the Jasper Dancers, Cheerleading team, Pep Band, and mascot. Support recruitment, practice schedules, event coordination and travel.

  • Develop strategies and programming to enhance and increase attendance and spirit, particularly at home basketball games.

  • Collaborating with both Student Life and Athletics to create the best student experience possible from a health and wellness perspective.

  • This position requires some travel, including but not limited to the MAAC Basketball Tournament, NDA Dance and Cheer Nationals, MAAC E-Sports Tournament.

  • Play an active role in university traditions and major Student Engagement events including but not limited to Orientation, Welcome Weekend, the Club Fair, Manhattan Madness, the Leadership Retreat, Lessons and Carols, Springfest, Jasper Day of Wellness, Senior Formal, and Commencement.

  • Based upon the offerings of the programs and field and court time logistics, the Assistant Director is expected to work some evenings and weekends as well, along with assisting larger, Student Engagement and Student Life initiatives throughout the year.
