Job Description
Procurement is defined as the sourcing, negotiating, and buying of goods, materials, and services to meet the company’s operational requirements.
The overall purpose of the role
The buyer will have responsibility for purchasing goods, materials, and services to ensure that the company's operational needs are met. This role has greater responsibility and accountability of a specialized or complex nature in accordance with Verisk's prescribed purchasing regulations and procedures. Work closely with the contract specialist to review and analyze purchase requisitions, investigate and develop sources of supplies, prepare bid specifications, issue bid requests, review quotations, and evaluate them. Interprets purchasing procedures for departments and vendors, which require a degree of technical knowledge. This position requires the use of initiative, independent judgment, attention to detail, and multitasking.
Job Duties
- Prepare purchase orders in line with final negotiations with selected or preferred suppliers and in line with organizational targets and requirements, and work with the contract specialist to make any adjustments, updates, or cancellations to these documents.
- Examines and analyzes departmental purchase requisitions for completeness and accuracy of information; contacts contract specialists, departments, or initiators to clarify or complete information; determines the method to process a requisition based on dollar amount, timeliness required, existing open contracts, and/or competitive bidding.
- Follows up and monitors purchase orders to maintain the integrity of the schedule and verify pricing and delivery dates match the order confirmation.
- Promotes communication across departments to identify and drive toward common policies and best practices to achieve cost reductions.
- Responsible for the management of Verisk Service Now platform for the request and purchase of goods and services. Work closely with contract specialists and requesters to understand what type of purchase they are requesting.
- Work with contract specialists, requesters, vendors, and accounts payable to manage and resolve all purchase order issues, including timelines, pricing disputes, quantity requirements, and shipping methods.
- Ability to generate ad hoc reports to assist the entire department. Analyze and make useful recommendations.
- Develop ideas and strategies to improve operational efficiency, add value, aid business performance, and work towards a strategy of continuous improvement to achieve better results for overall company objectives.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree is preferred in finance, supply chain management, or other related fields.
- 5+ years of related procurement experience, including purchasing, bid negotiation, and supplier relationships
- Exhibits excellent customer service skills and behaviors toward internal and external customers and co-workers.
- Ability to act independently to determine methods and procedures for new assignments
- Ability to respond consistently with a high degree of initiative to resolve issues or complex problems that may arise
- Ability to complete tasks and projects in a timely manner
Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills; ability to be part of a community and work in a team environment - Able to fluently speak, write, and understand English. German as an additional language is a +
