Job Description
In this compelling leadership position on our Learning and Development Office (LDO) team, you will play a critical role developing and leading a comprehensive portfolio of highly interrelated, strategically aligned work in our leadership and career development space that includes building capability in talent programs, coaching, mentorship, and experiential development (rotations, shadow opportunities, gig work, etc.). The Senior Director is responsible for providing leadership and guidance to a team of talent development professionals, leading the strategic direction of the function(s), and serving as a premiere subject matter expert. This role reports to the VP, Head of Learning & Development.
This is a Hybrid role and can be based in our Washington, DC or Reston, VA office.

The Senior Director, Talent Development role will offer you the flexibility to make each day your own, while working alongside people who care so that you can deliver on the following responsibilities:
- In close partnership with key stakeholders, the Senior Director will develop a holistic, transformational strategy to guide Fannie Mae towards a new future in talent development. Will collaborate with LDO colleagues, business and HR leaders, and subject matter experts to craft and socialize a vision and lead their team to deliver it.
- The Senior Director leads two team focused on highly interrelated work:
- Leadership Development
- Lead team of talent development professionals to develop a comprehensive leadership development framework and translate that plan into actionable, realized outcomes.
- Lead internal and external partnerships to deliver innovative, best-in-class solutions that build upon the existing offering to elevate Fannie Mae’s leadership development capability in close alignment with our enterprise strategy.
- Stay abreast of best practices and emerging trends across all aspects of marketing and communications including technology, research, monitoring, and measurement.
- Maintain awareness of best practices and emerging trends across all aspects of leadership development including technology, research, monitoring, and measurement, and incorporate as necessary.
- Career Development
- Lead team of talent development professionals to develop a comprehensive career development framework and translate that plan into actionable, realized outcomes.
- Lead internal and external partnerships to deliver innovative, best-in-class solutions that build upon the existing offering to elevate Fannie Mae’s career development capability in close alignment with our enterprise strategy.
- Maintain awareness of best practices and emerging trends across all aspects of career development including technology, research, monitoring, and measurement, and incorporate as necessary.
- Partner with key stakeholder to lead the adoption of employee-driven career development and related behavioral and mindset shifts associated with successful adoption.
- Partner to lead the implementation of Fannie Mae’s Internal Talent Marketplace (ITM).
- Partner to drive adoption of new HR technology-enabled career development solutions.
Qualifications
THE EXPERIENCE YOU BRING TO THE TEAM
Minimum Required Experiences
- 8 years related experience leading and driving innovative and strategically aligned talent and career development solutions and teams.
- Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.
- Exemplary skill in partnering and collaborating with team members and key stakeholders to drive results.
- Exemplary skill in adapting style and building consensus with client group leaders.
- Exemplary skill in collaboratively addressing sophisticated problems and analyzing information from multiple resources to make business decisions.
- Demonstrated expertise translating above to a digestible, audience-appropriate format including a cohesive story for executive communication.
- Adept at presenting to both executive and non-executive audiences.
- Experience with large-scale HR systems integration efforts.
Desired Experiences
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience in UX (user experience) principles and application.
