TMHCC Stop Loss, a $2 Billion division within TMHCC, leads the way in providing medical stop loss insurance sold to employers. Position Summary:
Under general supervision, performs various routine underwriting tasks to assist in the processing and renewal of policies and contracts for the Underwriting department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enter sold case data into proprietary database.

  • Prepare sold documentation from proprietary database and route to third-party administrator (TPA)/broker for client review and signature.

  • Set up and maintain all sold case files.

  • Update and maintain Outstanding Documents Log on a daily basis.

  • Pull and distribute census and zip code information to be entered into internal databases (PA) by Underwriting Assistants.

  • Review all returned, signed documents and route to appropriate Underwriter for approval.

  • Act as Customer Service Representative to the TPA/broker.

  • Act as a liaison between Administration, Underwriting, and Marketing departments.

  • Forward all completed sold case files to home office for policy issuance.

  • Process all non-renewals and terminations. Notify required parties of non-renewal/termination.

  • Complete and fax all risk management transmittals (sold cases, non-renewals, and terminations) to Risk Management department.

  • Evaluate, analyze, and/or interpret plan documents, amendments, and/or schedules of benefits provided by third-party administrators (TPAs)/brokers.

  • Responsible for the accuracy and completion of underwriting information and data entry forms pertaining to new and sold business, as well as renewal and life cases.

  • Data entry of all pertinent information obtained through the analysis of requests for proposal (RFPs) to generate manual rates from internal database.

  • Evaluate, analyze, and/or interpret aggregate reports provided by TPA/brokers to determine risk an also assist Underwriters with their determination of discretion to assign.

  • Obtain all necessary information required by the Underwriters so they may provide the best quote possible for TPA/brokers.

  • Generate analysis reports for underwriters illustrating the progress of the HCCB Underwriting department and other factors pertaining to renewal and new business growth.

  • Communicate effectively with TPA/brokers, peers, and other departments. Answer questions, within scope of ability and refer other questions to appropriate person.

  • Study and learn underwriting manual and HCCB Underwriting procedures to work towards an underwriting position.

  • Maintain required documentation on all RFPs and policy renewals in system, manual files, and
    scanned document storage.

  • Perform other general clerical duties such as data entry, mailing, copying, filing, faxing, scanning,
    ordering supplies, and operating departmental office equipment.


Education, Experience & Knowledge:

  • High school diploma or GED required

  • 2 years experience or Associate degree preferred

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as plan of benefits, bid specifications, claim reports, and procedural manuals

  • Possess and have ability to apply knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures

  • Solid written and verbal communication skills with an emphasis on confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy

  • Advanced organizational and analytical skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

  • Intermediate proficiency and experience using Microsoft Office package (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word)
